Responsibilities

Summary:

This position integrates the Substance Abuse Program's mission, goals, and treatment philosophy with clinical theory and evidenced based practices. This position also ensures the quality of inmate care, continued staff professional development, support administration, and ensures that all services meet contractual obligations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the staff and function of providing substance abuse counseling to the inmates of the facility.
  • Manages and monitors the quality of clinical services.
  • Manages the multiple roles as mentor, trainer, team member, evaluator, and administer for the program.
  • Understands, monitors, and ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations and accrediting body standards for the delivery of substance use disorder treatment.
  • Implements effective disciplinary and administrative management techniques that enhance clinical supervision and accomplishment of the organization's mission.
  • Conducts chemical dependency program orientation sessions.
  • Provides timely and specific feedback to staff during case conferences. Feedback includes critiquing the staff's conceptualization of inmate needs, attitudes toward inmates, clinical skills, and overall performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Ensures that professional codes of ethics, client's rights documentation, and laws and regulations that govern both counseling and clinical supervision practices are used at the facility.
  • Complies with all monitoring, documenting, and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinates counseling efforts with mental health professionals or other health professionals such as doctors, nurses, or social workers.
  • Interviews inmates, reviews records, and confers with other professionals to evaluate individuals' mental and physical condition and to determine their suitability for participation in a specific program.
  • Manages the coordination of activities with courts, probation officers, community services, or other post- treatment agencies.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with referral sources and other community programs to expand, enhance, and expedite service delivery.
  • Be a role model by taking full responsibility for one's decisions, supervisory practices, and personal wellness.
  • Engages in professional develop and attend training sessions to increase knowledge and skills.
  • May perform the duties of a Substance Abuse Counselor as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Certification as a Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) as defined by the State's Certification Board.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Substance Abuse Counselor.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the Principles of Effective Intervention that empirical evidence has proven to successfully reduce recidivism.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a substance abuse function.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
