POSITION SPECIFICS

The Student Affairs Generalist serves as a resources to support and provide critical services to the vibrant, inclusive, and student-centered Behrend College environment providing broad-based support across multiple functional areas, including but not limited to student success initiatives, student conduct, student engagement, and orientation; working collaboratively with campus partners to enhance the holistic student experience and ensure students have access to the resources needed for personal, academic, and professional growth. The Generalist will provide advocacy and support to students across a broad spectrum of issues and concerns such as complex behavioral and/or psychological challenges, social or adjustment problems, academic related challenges, and financial insecurity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, oversee, and implement programming and services that support the representation, engagement, retention, and success of specific populations, underrepresented groups, or those experiencing barriers to success.

  • Provide advocacy and support to students across a broad spectrum of issues and concerns such as complex behavioral and/or psychological challenges, social or adjustment problems, academic-related challenges, and financial issues.

  • Assist students in making use of university and/or community resources and services, including, but not limited to, emergency medical care, housing, and funding in times of crisis.

  • Communicate with parents/guardians, families, or designated emergency contacts, as appropriate.

  • Follow up with and track students in distress to monitor progress and ensure compliance with recommendations.

  • Complete documentation and maintain records of student cases in online case management system.

  • Assist in reviewing and developing policies, procedures, and training to support successful operations.

  • Respond to Student Affairs general email inbox on designated days.

  • Serve on the Student Affairs On-Call Rotation, responding to crisis or emergency incidents after-hours and on weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Progressively responsible experience in student affairs administration within a higher education setting.

  • Excellent interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills.

  • Experience collaborating with individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and life experiences.

  • Ability to serve on the Student Affairs Administrator on call rotation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in college student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, psychology, social work, law, or related field.

  • Working knowledge of issues impacting college students, student development theory, and its application.

  • Direct experience in crisis response and case management procedures, preferably in a higher education setting.

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency (word processing, spreadsheet, and database systems).

  • Skilled in managing multiple and competing priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a dynamic, diverse, and engaged student population, both individually and in groups.

  • Ability to thrive in a diverse, fast-paced student affairs office responsible for responding to emergent needs and issues.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others within a multidisciplinary team environment, evidence of effective collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and parents.

  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating training and presentations to students, staff, or faculty.

  • Familiarity with Penn State policies, procedures, and organizational structure.

  • Working knowledge of case management principles and practices.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

    If filled as Student Affairs Generalist - Intermediate Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None If filled as Student Affairs Generalist - Advanced Professional, this position requires: Master's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

    SALARY & BENEFITS

    The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $46,400.00 - $74,000.00.
