*Medical Receptionist - Surgery Department (OnSite)* *Location:* Norfolk, VA, 23507
*Schedule:* Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM *Type:* ContracttoHire (4month contract) *Position Summary:* The *Medical Receptionist (Surgery Department)* serves as the *first point of contact* for patients and visitors. This role supports frontend clinical operations in a busy setting where accuracy, professionalism, and strong customer service skills are essential. All administrative and patient access functions are completed within *EPIC*, the practice's single electronic health record (EHR) system. *Patient Access & Front Desk Operations:* * Check patients in and out of clinic visits * Verify and update insurance, demographics, and patient documentation in EPIC * Collect and scan insurance cards and photo IDs * Process copays, balances, and payments at time of service * Handle highvolume, multiline phone calls * Maintain compliance and accuracy in all frontdesk workflows *Scheduling & Appointment Coordination* * Manage and prepare provider schedules * Schedule followups, postops, and inoffice procedures * Make appointment reminder and confirmation calls * Coordinate referrals and ensure required documentation is completed * Maintain accurate schedule information in EPIC *Administrative & EPIC System Support* * Ensure all documentation is complete within EPIC * Send task messages to clinical teams as needed * Support clinic flow by collaborating with medical assistants, nurses, and providers *Required Skills & Experience* *Must Haves:* * *Medical receptionist experience* (preferably in a specialty or surgical setting) * *EPIC experience* (scheduling, registration, verification, messaging) * Strong background in *medical reception, front office, or patient access* * Experience scheduling appointments and handling highvolume calls * Ability to multitask, stay organized, and maintain professionalism under pressure *Work Environment* * Fastpaced, inoffice clinical setting * 2-3 medical receptionists assigned on each side of the clinic floor * Consistently high call volume * Surgical provider schedules create variable daily traffic * Required attire: black, gray, or burgundy scrubs (may be mixed/matched) * Reports directly to the department's Office Coordinator *Why This Role Is Open* * Recent employee departure * The clinic has an immediate need for frontdesk coverage *What This Role Offers (Employee Value Proposition)* * Teachingfocused environment with professional development * Regular educational opportunities such as lunchandlearns * Supportive leadership that promotes from within * Exposure to a wide variety of surgical specialties * A collaborative, patientfocused team culture *Compliance & Additional Details* * background check required * Drug and medical screening * Benefits may include: medical/dental/vision, 401(k), life insurance, disability, HSA, timeoff programs, and employee assistance services (eligibility varies by classification and tenure) *Job Type & Location*This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, VA. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
