Description
The School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, invites applications for a contract teaching faculty position (Teaching Assistant Professor). The primary responsibility of this contract faculty position would be teaching introductory physics courses.

This position will appeal to those interested in the challenge of educating and mentoring students at the university level. The creative development of new curricula, and even new directions for the courses, will be encouraged. The position will be a member of the School of Physics and Astronomy faculty.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
Have a strong commitment to quality undergraduate physics education.
Manage the operation of large physics courses.
Work well independently as well as with others.
Maintain an outstanding record of educational and professional leadership.
Engage in department, school, and/or university level service activities appropriate to the position.
Be dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment

Responsibilities:
Develop and teach courses.
Manage teams of teaching assistants.
Assist in the design and implementation of laboratory experiments.
Work with fellow faculty in preparing exams and other course materials.
Provide service through participation in governance of the department and/or the University.
Contribute to the development of the profession through participation in national and/or international associations, publications, and/or other related activities.
Continue personal growth within the profession, keep current within the field, and broaden knowledge and expertise.
Contribute to outreach activities that support the unit's mission.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Candidates are expected to hold a PhD in physics or a related field and possess at least three years of teaching experience.

Preferred:

  • Experience can include time spent teaching as part of one's graduate program.
  • Having been the primary instructor (lecturer) for a college-level course is preferred.
  • The candidate should also have experience working with experimental and demonstration apparata.

Pay Range: $70,500 - $95,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
