SUPERVISOR I- MET LAB (2nd shift 3-11pm) or Midnight Shift (11-7am)

Position Description:

  • Supervises laboratory practices, procedures, and processes.
  • Manages, directs, and coordinates the efforts of Receiving, Data Analyst, Macro etch (DI) and Metallographic inspection or Mechanical and Magnetic Testing per industry specification in a cost-effective manner that supports both our internal and external customers.
  • Ensures maintenance of equipment and safety of laboratory users. Coordinates schedules and activities.
  • Interfaces with internal technical personnel, Customers and outside Quality governing bodies to ensure testing is in compliance with industry standards.
  • Coordinates the procurement of supplies and services, which includes outside laboratory testing if required for the efficient operation of the assigned area.
  • Updates, maintains and writes Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support testing methods in assigned areas.
  • Maintains all calibration of equipment needed to perform all required testing within the specifications as outlined in the SOPs.
  • Supervises group leaders and lab employees. Coordinates schedules and lab activities, provides input on hiring decisions and participates in personnel actions as necessary.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • High school diploma required, bachelor's degree in Materials Science or Metallurgy preferred.
  • 5+ years' experience in Metallurgical staff or related role.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Has breadth of technical or functional expertise in own area of responsibility or department; acquiring knowledge of other related areas of departments.
  • Practical understanding of industrial/manufacturing principles, standards, methods and practices.
  • Developing knowledge of disciplined problem-solving methods, and knowledge of positive employee relations practices.
  • Ability to develop and mentor others, to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate technical and business decisions, and to execute business plans and achieve goals.
  • Influences and provides input for forecasting and planning resources; may assist in managing allocated budget.
  • Ability to lead others and to effectively manage individual employee performance, to train and develop other professionals, and to be a team player, routinely influence, and positively impact business improvement efforts.
  • High responsiveness to customer requests.
  • Excellent business writing skills.
  • Customer focus.
