Title: Temporary 4-H State Fair - Exhibits Coordinator

Program Area: Youth Development

Location: St. Paul Campus, Remotely & State Fairgrounds

Appt. term: Temporary job code 0001/0006 from approximately April 15 - August 2; Seasonal job code 0003 August 3-Sept 18, 2026 as this work will move to the fairgrounds for these dates.

Dates of hire: April to September, 2026

Hourly rate: $16.00 - 21.00

LOCATION OF POSITION

Exhibits Coordinator will be based on St. Paul Campus with the option to work remotely when possible. At the beginning of August, work will be conducted at the 4-H Building at the State Fairgrounds.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for planning and implementing the judging experience for all general 4-H projects that come to the Minnesota State Fair.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop list of judges for judging exhibits at the Minnesota State Fair
  • Develop and implement a schedule of 4-H projects to be judged that is efficient and economical
  • Recruit and schedule over 400 judges to judge 4-H projects at the Minnesota State Fair
  • Develop and carry out 40+ judges and exhibitor orientations at the Minnesota State Fair
  • Supervise, display and maintain 2,500+ exhibits for display at the Minnesota State Fair
  • Train and supervise a staff of 8 to 12 exhibit assistants, mentor leadership growth
  • Communicate with judges, volunteers, exhibitors, fair personnel and the general public attending the fair
  • Collaborate with other departments to maximize personal strengths
  • Develop and implement a plan for youth requiring virtual judging
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
  • Exhibits Coordinator will report to the Director of State and County Fairs Programs. That person will oversee the coordinator's work and schedule.
  • Reimbursement for mileage expenses outside of commute is available. (Must provide own means for traveling throughout the assigned area).
  • Wage rate is $16.00 - 21.00 per hour. Payroll is processed each pay period according to submitted time cards.
  • Each hire is contingent on a State Criminal Background check clearance including Motor Vehicle and safety of minors checks (or other checks as appropriate).
Qualifications

Required:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Must have a minimum of one year of related experience in youth work
  • Experience working on the 4-H Exhibits Staff at the Minnesota State Fair
  • Ability to work with and support youth and adults from a diverse range of experiences, cultures and backgrounds.
  • Ability to initiate and complete tasks and projects as outlined
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience using computer software technology
  • Skills in verbal and written communication and strong organizational skills
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle with required liability insurance for job-related travel
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends; especially leading up to and during the MN State Fair

Preferred:

  • Access to reliable internet and ability to work remotely
  • Willingness to learn new skills and ability to give and receive feedback
  • Previous experience in 4-H Youth Development.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $16 - $21/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
