Job Summary

The Lab Manager will supervise and perform technical and administrative tasks for the Meyerowitz Lab in plant genomics and genetics.

Essential Job Duties
  • Manage day-to-day activities within a plant research laboratory, including activities such as ensuring operation of essential equipment (e.g., plant growth chambers), making sure adequate supplies are available for routine experimental procedures, reviewing budgets, etc.
  • Act as liaison between lab, HHMI, and host institution administrative offices on issues such as budget management, fixed asset inventories, purchasing, use of host accounts, etc.
  • Act as liaison between lab and safety and regulatory offices to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • May develop laboratory guidelines, maintain procedures manuals, and/or evaluate new materials and equipment.
  • Assist with research projects; requires prior experience with growth of Arabidopsis thaliana, preparation of soil and agar plant media, seed collection and storage from Arabidopsis mutants, genotyping of plants by mutant phenotype and by polymerase chain reaction, experience with Agrobacterium-mediated plant transformation and antibiotic selection of plant transformants, and familiarity with methods of CRISPR/Cas9 modification of plant genomes.May evaluate new techniques and technology.
  • Operate and maintain Leica laser scanning confocal microscopes.
  • Train incoming personnel in proper lab conduct.May instruct in experimental protocols.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in biological or physical sciences.
  • Three or more years of lab experience that includes plant genetics and genomics, and growth and manipulation of Arabidopsis plants.
  • Operational knowledge of advanced lab equipment, including Leica Stellaris laser scanning confocal microscopes.
  • Operational knowledge of Agrobacterium-mediated dicotyledonous plant transformation.
  • Operational knowledge of methods for CRISPR/Cas9 modification of plant genomes.
  • Ability to supervise others.
  • Ability to initiate and compose communications for various purposes.
  • Ability to review goals, analyze processes necessary to achieve those goals, and develop techniques and systems required to meet goals.Often explores new areas and seeks opportunities to apply new knowledge to work.

Hiring Range

$69,000 - $70,500 Per Year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
