Job Summary

Under general supervision from, and in collaboration with, the Director of the Health Professions Post-Baccalaureate (HPPB) program, the Pre-Health and Test Prep Advisor (PH&TPA) provides comprehensive advising support for post-baccalaureate (PB) students seeking information, resources, academic preparation, and application coaching for post-graduate health profession degree programs. In collaboration with college advising units and other UC Davis student-facing organizations, the PH&TPA coaches across the wide spectrum of student advising needs from the early stages of pre-applicants to students who are actively engaged in the application cycle. #CA-AR

Leveraging extensive knowledge of the application and admission standards for the range of health professions, identify and collaborate with test preparation companies to develop appropriate and specialized content for test preparation plans, workshops, and programs to ensure HPA and HPPB deliver high-quality test prep services. Assess academic credentials, experiences, and individual circumstances for PB students to aid them in making informed decisions in pursuing a health career.

The PH&TPA leads quarterly test prep seminars, specialized for PB and current undergraduate populations, for the different standardized exams. Similarly, they host test prep drop-in sessions, mock exam sessions, and post-mock exam review sessions, tailoring content to the specific student population. The PH&TPA advises students and makes appropriate referrals when barriers, distractions, or other complications impact (or threaten to impact) the student's health profession career goals.

The PH&TPA must stay abreast of current admission application practices, including specialized knowledge of admission criteria, processes, goals, and practices for the range of health profession programs. The incumbent must similarly establish and maintain working partnerships with colleagues within the health professions community in order to guide applicants and advocate on their behalf in a timely and relevant manner.
