We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Fellow to join Dr. Brian North's research group in the Biomedical Sciences Department at Creighton University School of Medicine. This work will largely focus on the aging heart and the interrelationship between aging and heart failure. A particular focus will be on understanding the molecular and cellular pathways that are at the intersection of aging and heart failure that may translate into novel therapeutic strategies. Our research employs a comprehensive array of models and methodologies, including molecular biology, cell lines, genetic mouse models, and transcriptomic and proteomic profiling to explore aging. We offer a supportive and collaborative environment for lab members to develop their career.

Candidates should be able to take initiative and be capable of working independently with appropriate supervision and guidance. Should also be able to critically evaluate relevant scientific advances and integrate this knowledge into research programs and are expected to maintain a high level of productivity in the laboratory setting and publish research results in peer-reviewed journals and present work at scientific conferences.

Key responsibilities include designing and executing cutting-edge experiments using cell lines, ex vivo cultures, and genetic mouse models. Lead collaborative projects, contributing to the design of protocols, experimental strategies, and data analysis. Prepare and publish high-quality manuscripts and present findings at internal meetings and conferences. Provide guidance to graduate and undergraduate students, helping to maintain a supportive and educational environment and contribute to a positive lab culture by actively participating in lab meetings and shared responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • A PhD or MD/PhD in molecular and cellular biology or a related field.
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications or submitted manuscripts, technical expertise in cellular and molecular biology with prior animal experience, and/or prior work in the cardiac system is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
