Position Summary

The Senior Assistant Director, Visitor Experience and Events provides strategic leadership and direct participation and supervision for the planning, coordination, and execution of high-impact recruitment and yield programs for prospective undergraduate students. This position oversees both in-person and virtual events designed to support first-year and transfer enrollment goals, including but not limited to Fall Open House, Admitted Student Presentations & Tours, and other events. The Sr Asst Dir is responsible for managing all aspects of event strategy and execution, including budget development, supervision and scheduling of staff, marketing and outreach, logistical coordination (in collaboration with the Administrative Events Coordinator), and post-event analysis. The Sr Asst Dir provides recommendations for improvement and prepares detailed reports to assess outcomes and inform future planning.

The Senior Assistant Director provides strategic oversight of UCLA's campus visit programs, including the Bruin Ambassador, Campus Tours, Cub Tours, as well as support for the STOMP Program. This position is responsible for supervising 2 professional staff and over 100 student employees and volunteers who engage with thousands of prospective students and their families each year. The Senior Assistant Director oversees the recruitment, hiring, training, and performance management of staff and student employees, ensuring that staff and ambassadors are well-prepared to deliver accurate, engaging, and inclusive presentations, tours and campus experiences that reflect the university's values and priorities.

The Senior Assistant Director establishes and enforces performance standards, develops training curriculum, coordinates regular staff development sessions, and ensures consistent messaging across all ambassador and tour platforms. The position manages day to day logistics, including scheduling, assignments, and daily operational logistics to ensure efficient delivery of services during peak and non-peak periods. By fostering a positive, student-centered culture grounded in professionalism, accountability, and equity, the Senior Assistant Director ensures that the visitor experience contributes meaningfully to UCLA's recruitment and yield goals. This position may require occasional travel to off-site location.


Salary & Compensation

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications

  • 5 years Demonstrated management experience in college or university admissions and recruitment. Typically, minimum five years of experience required. (Required)
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills for training, delegating responsibility, evaluating performance, and mentoring staff. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience in oral presentations to large and small audiences: potential applicants and enrollees, families, colleagues, professional organizations. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to those educational issues affecting underrepresented students and families. (Required)
  • Knowledge of the University of California, undergraduate admission policies, processes, and procedures highly preferred. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated advanced strategic planning and operational leadership in supervising university visitation programs, overseeing complex, multilayered initiatives that require coordinated planning, crossdepartmental collaboration, and seamless execution of highimpact recruitment and yield events for prospective Kindergarten to transfer students. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, produce, coordinate and manage registration/reservations for high profile large scale, multi-day/location events with complex logistics anywhere in the world on budget, in a fast paced, high pressure environment, balancing the needs of different constituencies while coordinating vendors and supervising volunteers. (Required)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best-practices within university recruitment events Kindergarten - Transfer, admission programing, and visitor experiences. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill in planning events to avoid conflicting dates; ensuring lead time to assemble and facilitate mailings, and to ensure all deadlines are met. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill in independently prioritizing projects and working independently to ensure that work is completed in a timely fashion under the stress of deadlines, change in assignments, competing requirements, fluctuating workload, high priority institutional initiatives of critical importance to the university, and emergency projects. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill in analyzing and evaluating requests for funds, purchase of materials, equipment or special requests, and determining the appropriateness of such requests. Demonstrated ability to plan and prepare budgets, in accordance with University requirements and master associated bookkeeping skills, such as projecting and reconciling expenses. (Required)
  • Demonstrated cultural competence is essential, as this role engages with diverse and historically underserved populations and must maintain the highest level of professionalism, sensitivity, and confidentiality in all interactions. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and prepare project plans and schedules. Demonstrated analytical skills to evaluate programs, write reports, recommend improvements, changes, enhancements. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in leading, establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other staff members, subordinates, school administrators and officials and representatives. (Required)
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working as part of a team in a highly collaborative environment necessitating establishing working relationships with University staff, diverse faculty, students/alumni, families, volunteers, vendors, and the general public. (Required)
  • Experience in preparing reports and other documents that are clearly written, well organized, well structured, accurate, complete, cover relevant issues, and professional in appearance. (Required)
  • Experience in analyzing data, problems, situations, practices or procedures to: define the problem or objective, identify relevant concerns or factors, and formulate logical and objective conclusions. Demonstrated skill in systems problem solving with little or short notice. (Required)

  • Advanced degree in a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Preferred)
