The Event Sales Specialist has direct sales responsibility for developing new sponsorship, exhibit, and advertising revenue for assigned SAE events (WCX, AeroTech, etc. (as assigned).) while managing and growing existing exhibitor and sponsor relationships.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

40%: New Business Development & Revenue Growth

  • Develop and execute a strategic sales plan for assigned events and sponsorship portfolios.
  • Prospect and secure new exhibitors, sponsors, and event partners aligned with target revenue goals.
  • Identify, influence, and sell to decision-makers across engineering, marketing, HR, and executive leadership teams.
  • Position SAE events as high-value platforms for brand visibility, recruiting, thought leadership, and customer engagement.
  • Create customized sponsorship packages to align with partner objectives.

30%: Account Management & Renewal Growth

  • Maintain and grow relationships with existing exhibitors and sponsors to secure renewals and multi-year commitments.
  • Identify upsell opportunities including enhanced sponsorship visibility, digital add-ons, speaking opportunities, and cross-event participation.
  • Serve as the primary sales contact for assigned accounts and collaborate with Marketing and Event Operations teams to ensure successful execution.
  • Conduct post-event follow-ups to assess ROI and identify expansion opportunities.

20%: CRM Management, Reporting & Industry Engagement

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all sales opportunities and activities in Salesforce.
  • Track pipeline activity, forecasting, and revenue reporting.
  • Attend assigned SAE events and industry functions to support exhibitor relations, networking, and new business development.
  • Monitor competitive events and industry trends to identify growth opportunities.

5%: Market Intelligence & Internal Collaboration

  • Share market feedback, sponsor insights, and competitive intelligence with Product, Marketing, and Leadership teams.
  • Provide input on sponsorship strategy, pricing models, and new revenue concepts.

5%: Organizational Contribution

  • Participate in SAE sales meetings and revenue strategy discussions.
  • Contribute to cross-selling initiatives across Membership, Professional Development, Standards, and University Programs.
  • Support additional projects as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 2+ years of B2B sales experience, preferably in event sales, sponsorship sales, exhibit sales, media sales, or related revenue-generating roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed revenue targets.
  • Experience managing a sales pipeline and forecasting revenue.
  • Strong prospecting and new business development skills.
  • Experience using a CRM system (Salesforce preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to adapt messaging to diverse audiences

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in event, tradeshow, or sponsorship sales within automotive, aerospace, or mobility sectors.
  • Familiarity with SAE events and mobility industry ecosystem preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel approximately 25-35% of the time (event-dependent).
  • Ability to work extended hours during event cycles
  • Standard office environment with prolonged computer use.
