POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Executive plays a key role in the growth of KFI's Controls division and serves as a trusted advisor and owner advocate, with a focus on understanding the owner's needs. This person will support business development efforts and clearly articulate KFI's value proposition and unique differentiators to customers. They will assess customer needs, translate them into clear recommendations, and effectively integrate KFI's full range of services into project strategies while ensuring project expectations are clearly communicated and managed to deliver a high level of customer satisfaction.

The Project Executive works independently while thriving in a consultative, teamdriven environment, contributing to staff development through mentorship and promoting clear, consistent communication across project teams. This role requires a practical, solutionsoriented approach with strong proficiency in controls and facility operations.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Serve as "Project Executive" on certain larger projects or clients with multiple consecutive projects, assisting Project Managers and technical staff, and strategically engaging with clients.
  • Provide technical and engineering excellence through project development and management to ensure successful delivery, serving as Project Manager on complex client projects when appropriate.
  • Drive project development by ensuring alignment on scope, feasibility, and funding requirements, supported by onsite investigations and review of technical documents.
  • Deliver a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring project expectations are clearly communicated and managed - both externally and internally.
  • Actively engage in business development through customer and prospect meetings, opportunity scoping, proposal and presentation development, and support of contract negotiations.
  • Contribute to building the backlog of opportunities through marketing and business development activities, including attending conferences, conducting research, and participating in business development meetings.
  • Develop estimates for assigned scope of work and is accountable for ensuring we stay within scope.
  • Focus on understanding the P&L statement of our customers, planning and preparation for customer visits and business development calls, etc.
  • Contribute to a dynamic team environment by being proactive, communicating clearly to all stakeholders, and modeling a highly collaborative working environment.
  • Mentor staff and subconsultants by offering guidance, work direction, and support for their professional development.
  • Participate in Trade and Professional organizations that support the Individual's continued development and KFI's interests in business development and potential staffing additions.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field OR equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 10-15+ years of combined hands-on technical engineering and project management experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of design and construction processes, building systems, contract management, and project delivery methods.
  • Proficient with controls design, construction, and systems integration for education, healthcare, and commercial facilities.
  • Experience with the business development process, including customer meetings, opportunity scoping, proposal development, and contract negotiations.
  • Active participation in industry conferences, research activities, and business development meetings.
  • Strong business acumen with exceptional communication and influencing skills, including the ability to deliver clear presentations and engage credibly with senior leaders and customers.
  • Peoplemanagement and meetingmanagement skills, with the ability to lead teams and facilitate discussions in groups of all sizes.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across teams and functions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that support mentoring and the professional development of engineers and project managers.
  • Represent the company in a professional matter.
  • Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application, including MS Office.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Travel: May include up to 10% domestic travel.

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification or willingness to pursue this designation.
  • Experience in consulting engineering.
  • Experience programing HVAC and central utility equipment.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following software platforms:
    • Tridium Niagara
    • Allen-Bradley Studio 5000
    • Emerson Machine Edition
    • AVEVA Solutions
    • Inductive Automation Ignition

Working Conditions

  • Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment.
  • Anticipate work engagement being approximately 75% client and project development, 15% client and project management, and 10% general industry engagement and staff development.
