Join the Ramily! Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) is seeking a Dining Services Equipment Maintenance Technician to join the Facilities Maintenance team.
The Dining Services Equipment Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the installation, inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial food service equipment used in University dining facilities. This position ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards to support uninterrupted dining operations.
Responsibilities of the Dining Services Equipment Maintenance Technician include:
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on commercial kitchen equipment, including ovens, fryers, grills, steamers, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, and ventilation systems.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic malfunctions and complete timely repairs.
- Respond to emergency equipment failures and prioritize repairs for critical equipment.
- Remove unsafe equipment from service and coordinate corrective actions.
- Follow established preventive maintenance schedules.
- Inspect equipment for wear, safety hazards, and performance issues.
- Lubricate, calibrate, adjust, and replace parts as needed.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and service records.
- Ensure all equipment meets health department, OSHA, fire safety, and manufacturer standards.
- Support health inspections and corrective action follow-up.
- Adhere to lockout/tagout and other safety procedures.
- Promote safe work practices and proper equipment use.
- Receive and process work orders for equipment service.
- Coordinate with Facilities, Environmental Health & Safety, and external service vendors as needed.
- Monitor vendor work for quality and completeness.
- Track recurring equipment issues and recommend solutions.
- Maintain equipment inventory records, including serial numbers and warranties.
- Order and manage replacement parts and supplies.
- Document repairs, maintenance activities, and downtime.
- Assist with training Dining Services staff on proper equipment use and basic care.
- Provide guidance on equipment operation to reduce misuse and damage.
- Support installation and commissioning of new equipment.
- Provide HVAC, electrical, and mechanical support beyond Dining Services facilities as needed across the University campus.
- Assist Facilities and Auxiliary Services with general maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs to support campus operations.
- Respond to maintenance requests outside of dining facilities during emergencies or as operational needs require.
- Support campus-wide maintenance initiatives, special projects, and events as assigned.
