DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Semi-Skilled Laborer for the Fish and Boat Commission, you perform a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled duties in the construction and maintenance of Commission-owned facilities, including access areas, lakes, roads, parking lots, and buildings. In this role, you support earth moving, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing crews with tasks such as tree removal, pipe and conduit installation, guide rail and berm placement, concrete forming and finishing, reinforcing steel placement, and general building construction. This position assists electricians with duties including wire pulling, conduit and manhole installation, and site restoration work such as finish grading and seeding. You will operate light-duty trucks and trailers for material transport. Semi-Skilled Laborers will run equipment such as tampers, pumps, saws, concrete vibrators, generators, mowers, and weed eaters. You will assist in the maintenance of machinery used to complete duties. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Grounds maintenance
  • Trash removal
  • Brush cutting
  • Hand-cleaning ditches
  • Grading roads and parking areas

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal, full-time employment. The season runs from approximately March 2026, through November 2026.
  • Work hours are 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Wednesday, 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Thursday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • There may be occasional travel, overnights, weekend, evening, holiday, or overtime work.
  • This position does not receive medical benefits. Paid time off accrues after working 750 regular (non-overtime) hours in each calendar year.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
