Job Summary

The Senior Financial Analyst supports financial planning, budgeting, and cost management activities for a large IT organization and related capital projects. This role partners with IT leadership and business stakeholders to manage operational and capital expenditures, ensuring alignment with strategic and financial objectives. The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for forecasting, financial reporting, project cost tracking, and variance analysis while providing insights that support informed decision-making and financial governance.

Job Responsibilities




  • Partner with IT and business stakeholders to develop and manage annual operations and maintenance budgets and capital project expenditures.



  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and provide variance analysis with recommendations for corrective action.



  • Support financial forecasting and reporting processes, including maintaining financial systems and performing analytical reviews.



  • Create and process requisitions, purchase orders, account rulings, and project appropriations.



  • Manage and track capital project financial performance to ensure compliance with budget and governance requirements.



  • Prepare monthly financial reports including variance explanations and analysis of spending drivers.



  • Review accruals, vendor invoices, and payments to ensure financial accuracy and proper cost allocation.



  • Support vendor and contract financial management, including invoice reconciliation and issue resolution.



  • Assist with project accounting functions such as project hierarchy setup and financial tracking.



  • Develop financial reports, dashboards, and analysis tools to support leadership decision-making.



  • Support regulatory reporting requirements and financial documentation for rate case preparation when needed.




Job Requirements




  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field.



  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, or financial reporting.



  • Experience managing or supporting financial activities for capital projects.



  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.



  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with technical and business stakeholders.



  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.




Work Experience




  • Experience in financial planning and analysis, project financial management, or cost analysis.



  • Experience supporting capital project financial tracking and reporting.



  • Experience working with large organizations or complex financial environments preferred.



  • Experience in utilities, energy, engineering, infrastructure programs, corporate IT finance teams, or regulated industries preferred.




Technical Skills




  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis.



  • Experience using ERP or financial planning systems such as Oracle, SAP, or Hyperion.



  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI preferred.



  • Understanding of financial statements and accounting principles.
