(RN) Registered Nurse - Same-Day Oncology Clinic - 138718

The Same-Day Cancer Care Clinic RN will provide same-day oncology care to patients across all disease sites and modalities, ensuring expert triage and assessment (in person and telephone) of urgent symptoms or issues. This position requires exceptional critical thinking and intervention skills, including IV access (peripheral, venipuncture, port, and PICC) and IV-related therapies (symptom management, blood products, hydration, and so forth). In addition, the role also demands superior patient and family teaching skills, identifying gaps or barriers to patient/family understanding and the use of teach-back techniques of evidence-based information. This position will also require expert written and verbal communication skills with patients, families, faculty, and all health team members across multiple departments, ensuring efficient and excellent patient care in alignment with appropriate clinical algorithms and pathways.

Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously, consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

• Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.

• RN license issued by the State of California.

• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

• Must have a minimum of two (2) years of active RN experience.

• Two (2) to three (3) years of experience with oncology patients in a complex inpatient or outpatient healthcare setting (must be within the last 6 months).

• Demonstrated multi-disciplinary care coordination experience.

• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with all levels of staff, physicals, patients, and their families.

• Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with team members across multiple departments.

• Excellent critical thinking, clinical and patient teaching skills with vulnerable patient population.

• Demonstrated ability to rapidly prioritize and manage care in a fast-paced environment.

• Evidence of commitment to lifelong learning (e.g., professional certification, clinical ladder advancement, and so forth).

• BSN or MSN.

• Oncology Certification (OCN).

• Two (2+) or more years of outpatient oncology experience.

• Two (2) to three (3) years of oncology infusion experience.

• Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical.
