Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

The Family Support Specialist promotes children's development by providing services that support early learning, health, and family well-being, collaborating with families, our education teams, and community partners.

About the Early Education Division

The Early Education Division is federally funded to administer center-based Head Start and Early Head Start early care and education, along with community resources and referrals, to support economically disadvantaged children in being ready for school and families in achieving self-sufficiency. Currently, classrooms are operated through a mixed service delivery model of full-year, part-year, community, and school-based sites, operated directly by Maricopa County and through contracted Child Care Partnerships.

We Require

  • Two years of case management experience
  • Associate's degree in Social Work, Family Studies, Early Childhood Education, Education, or a closely related field

Other Requirements

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
  • Must secure a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety
  • Must complete a medical exam that includes screening for tuberculosis (TB)
  • Must obtain a CPR, first aid, and food handler's certification within six weeks of hire
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish may be required for some positions

Job Contributions

  • Build collaborative relationships with parents to establish trust and educate them on available community resources
  • Initiates and maintains partnerships with community agencies that provide health, social, employment, and educational services
  • Refers families for services, assists with access, and monitors completion
  • Facilitates, encourages, and supports parent involvement; organizes parent committee meetings and parent training activities based on family needs
  • Makes periodic home visits scheduled around working families' availability
  • Partners with families to identify goals, strengths, and services needed
  • Development and support implementation of Family Partnership Agreements
  • Assumes responsibility for child recruitment and maintains enrollment for assigned sites throughout the program year
  • Completes applications for program enrollment and coordinates enrollment, termination, and drop procedures
  • Monitors child attendance and contacts parents regarding absenteeism or other concerns
  • Works collaboratively with the Education team to ensure families receive comprehensive, highquality services
  • Assists other content areas (mental health, disabilities, health, education) and collaborates with coordinators to ensure family needs are met
  • Monitors and collects all 30, 45, and 90day health requirements, including dental exams, physicals/wellbaby checks, and immunizations
  • Conducts required screenings such as hearing, vision, TB, lead questionnaires, and lead/hemoglobin tests
  • Ensures all health records are accurate, up to date, and submitted according to County and program policies
  • Maintains current, accurate, and confidential records (paper and electronic)
  • Runs reports to track services and ensure compliance
  • Completes data entry, case notes, and documentation in a timely and compliant manner
  • Provides front desk coverage for the Head Start program as needed and participates in a weekly office day
  • Works with multiple computer systems effectively
  • Provides excellent customer service to the public, including using deescalation techniques and navigating difficult conversations when necessary
  • Organizes and conducts family engagement activities on a regular basis
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • Work is routinely performed in an office environment and may require extended periods of sitting, reading, and typing
  • The position requires travel to and from various County, client, and contractor locations during the scheduled workday, in accordance with County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles used for County business
