Description & Requirements

About the Broad Institute

The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard is dedicated to transforming medicine by dramatically accelerating the understanding and treatment of disease. The Institute fosters a vibrant and collaborative research environment that bridges disciplines and institutions, including close ties with Harvard, MIT, and the Harvard hospitals.

About the Biology of Adversity Project (BAP)

The Biology of Adversity Project (BAP) is a collaborative initiative at the Broad Institute focused on uncovering how adversity (e.g. fear, deprivation, enrichment) leaves molecular imprints on the genome that shape health and disease. BAP is funded through a generous donation and uses these resources to bring together experts in neuroscience, developmental biology, immunology, genomic technologies and computational biology to study these molecular records across tissues and at scale.

Position Overview

We are seeking an exceptional Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Buenrostro Lab as part of the Biology of Adversity Project. The fellow will reveal mechanisms that connect life experience and environmental stressors with molecular and cellular dysfunction. To pursue this work, the candidate will have access to cutting-edge single-cell and spatial genomic technologies, as well as opportunities for co-mentorship and collaboration across BAP-affiliated labs spanning diverse biological disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead independent and collaborative research into the molecular mechanisms by which adversity influences the healthy functions of cells
* Apply and develop advanced molecular, single-cell, and spatial genomics techniques
* Integrate findings across tissues and systems in collaboration with affiliate labs in neuroscience, immunology, developmental biology and genomic technologies
* Present results in internal meetings and external conferences; contribute to manuscripts and grant proposals

Qualifications
* Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Developmental Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology or a related field
* Experience with genomics preferred
* Demonstrated creativity, independence, and collaborative spirit
Environment and Mentorship

The fellow will be primarily situated in the Buenrostro Lab, with access to BAP's collaborative network of affiliated labs. This position offers an exceptional training environment, with opportunities to leverage innovative technologies, work across labs that specialize in developmental biology, immunology, and neuroscience, to create an integrated understanding of the organismal impact of adversity and its association to disease.

The expected base pay range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule. Broad provides pay ranges representing its reasonable and good faith estimate of what the organization reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, qualifications, and other factors permissible by law.
At Broad, your base pay is just one part of a comprehensive total rewards package. From day one, this role offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; a 401(k) retirement plan; flexible spending and health savings accounts; at least 13 paid holidays; winter closure; paid time off; parental and family care leave; and an employee assistance program, among other Broad benefits.
The Broad Institute is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, national origin, religion, age, color, sex, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by local, state, or federal laws, rules, or regulations.
