Position Summary
The Production Supervisoroversees the daily production operations of a facility, acting as the critical link between upper management and the frontline workforce. Their primary goal is to ensure products are manufactured safely, on time, and within quality standards while maximizing efficiency.
Primary Responsibilities
- Plan and organize production to meet customer demands.
- Compile data on performance, output, and progress for senior management.
- Lead a team between 5 and 20 team members.
- Assign tasks to workers and monitor the production line to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
- Inspect work in process (WIP) to ensure it meets exact specifications and compliance standards.
- Onboard new hires and provide continuous coaching on equipment use and safety procedures.
- Participate in hiring, conduct performance reviews, and handle disciplinary actions or conflict resolution.
- Spend significant time on the production floor ("Gemba") to observe processes firsthand, identify inefficiencies, and support frontline problem-solving.
- Actively monitor and eliminate the seven wastes of Lean.
- Maintain and utilize visual tools likeKanban boardsto track task status andWIPlimits to prevent bottlenecks.
- Ensure all team members follow establishedstandardized work processesto maintain consistency and quality.
- Lead or participate inKaizen eventsto implement incremental enhancements based on employee feedback.
- Maintain and improve 5S in the workplace
- Read, interpret and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately create equipment and products.
- Interpret job orders and drawings as needed for area of assignment.
- Review produced work for correctness and perform quality control inspections.
- Identify product defects and effectively communicate defects to shop leadership.
- Maintain accurate time records.
- Work with overheard cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts.
- Plan and delegate prioritized work flow assignments as directed by shop superintendent.
- Monitor machinery health and arrange maintenance for necessary repairs to minimize downtime.
- Implement and enforce strict safety protocols (e.g. OSHA regulations, proper PPE usage).
- Conduct regular audits of the work environment to ensure it remains clean and hazard-free.
- Inspect and document product compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- Work outside, inside, and in dusty, noisy and hazardous areas.
- Work in high places, tight places, confined spaces and/or other adverse locations.
- Climb, balance, squat, kneel and crouch.
- Work in all types of weather.
- Must have working knowledge of all trade materials and tools.
- Ability to lift, move and/or carry 50 lbs.
