What to Expect

The Process Engineer will design, document, implement, and optimize production methodologies in the manufacturing operations of Tesla's General Assembly. This engineer will be responsible for owning the metrics of Safety, Rate, Quality, and Cost while optimizing product flow through the factory. They will drive process optimization through subjects including process balance, tooling design and choice, ergonomic studies, material presentation, and additional relevant factors. They will interface with Production, Design, Test, and Quality Engineering teams to solve problems, improve manufacturability, and implement continuous improvements. They will partner directly with shop leadership to improve, record, and report out business KPI's to the factory level.

What You'll Do
  • Develop expertise in manufacturing processes. Understand process capabilities through data analysis and an in-depth understanding of the product. Develop and modify manufacturing instructions and material flow, improve repeatability and ergonomics, and reduce waste utilizing Lean Manufacturing best practices
  • Manage production process design to ensure on-time delivery of world class quality products to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) in a cost-effective way.Champion continuous improvement projects to maximize yield, capacity, and capability
  • Responsible for diagnosing issues found during manufacturing processes and driving structured problem solving to ensure corrective actions resolve real root causes. Utilize structured problem-solving frameworks such as DMAIC, Eight Disciplines (8D), or other similar frameworks, as well as tools such as 5 why's and Ishikawa diagrams
  • Analyze data from various sources to identify trends in business metrics such as quality, performance and more. Develop robust and clear data collection, visualization, and analysis tools. Enable data driven operational and financial decisions through predictive insights into tool and process performance, including integration of factory data systems and use of languages/software such as SQL, Python, R, JMP, Minitab, Tableau and Ignition
  • Monitor and reduce process variation using techniques such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA). Monitor and audit manufacturing processes to ensure product specifications and standards are achieved. Participate in the development and maintenance of FMEAs and Control Plans
  • Create and maintain Manufacturing Instructions, routings, change control, and associated processes. Develop and train sustaining technicians and assist in the training of production personnel as needed. Manage activities for process sustaining technicians to support day-to-day coverage of production line, including developing and documenting appropriate rework procedures
  • Identify and create business processes which capture and control key metrics. Prove out and refine these business processes to a point where they can be handed over to less technical teams while maintaining results
  • Support 24 by 7 production operations

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience developing and improving processes by demonstrating a track record of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement activities
  • Good understanding of Bill of Materials, Manufacturing Execution System, Specification Management, Change Point Management
  • Data collection and analysis experience with the ability to develop data driven actions and control methodologies
  • Strong structured problem-solving skills and a track record of delivering sustainable improvement results
