Lead Data Scientist, Autonomous Goal Management

Job Type: Permanent / Full-Time

Department: Enterprise AI

Location: 100% Remote

Sponsorship: Available for exceptional candidates

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Data Scientist to join our Enterprise AI organization and lead the development of advanced capabilities in autonomous goal management and agentic AI systems.

This is a high-impact individual contributor leadership role responsible for architecting and delivering production-grade AI systems that leverage Reinforcement Learning (RL) to enable intelligent agents capable of dynamic planning, autonomous decision-making, and goal decomposition in complex enterprise environments.

The ideal candidate has a proven track record of taking RL-driven agentic AI solutions from proof-of-concept to production, particularly within regulated industries such as healthcare, finance, defense, or aerospace.

This role requires both deep technical expertise and the ability to drive initiatives with minimal supervision, collaborate cross-functionally, and mentor junior scientists within a fast-moving AI organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of autonomous goal management frameworks for enterprise AI systems
  • Build and deploy production-ready Reinforcement Learning solutions for agentic AI applications
  • Architect dynamic planning and execution systems that support autonomous agents in complex workflows
  • Design goal decomposition, task orchestration, and adaptive decision frameworks
  • Develop robust evaluation, monitoring, and safety protocols to ensure agent reliability and alignment with business objectives
  • Translate cutting-edge AI/ML research into scalable production systems
  • Partner cross-functionally with data science, software engineering, product, and business stakeholders
  • Drive technical direction and decision-making with minimal hand-holding
  • Mentor junior data scientists and provide technical leadership across projects
  • Facilitate alignment across teams on architecture, implementation, and delivery strategy
  • Contribute to enterprise-wide AI capability development and innovation initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or related field
  • 4+ years of experience in AI/ML research, data science, or ML engineering
  • 2+ years leading advanced AI/ML systems or serving in a technical lead capacity
  • Demonstrated experience applying Reinforcement Learning to agentic AI systems in production
  • Proven success moving AI solutions from research prototype / POC to live production environments
  • Strong expertise in autonomous goal management and dynamic planning systems
  • Advanced Python programming skills
  • Strong hands-on experience with core ML frameworks such as:

    • PyTorch
    • JAX
    • TensorFlow (preferred but optional)

  • Experience with:

    • Model-based RL
    • Symbolic planning
    • Causal reasoning
    • Agent orchestration frameworks (e.g. LangChain, custom agent frameworks)

  • Experience designing scalable ML pipelines and production infrastructure
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and system design capabilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within regulated industries, especially healthcare, finance, defense, or aerospace
  • Experience building safe and reliable autonomous systems
  • Familiarity with enterprise-scale ETL and high-performance ML systems
  • Experience with multi-agent systems and hierarchical planning frameworks
  • Strong background in experimentation, model evaluation, and performance monitoring

Leadership & Collaboration

This role is ideal for a highly autonomous technical leader who thrives in collaborative environments.

Success in this position requires:

  • Strong cross-functional communication
  • Ability to influence stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams
  • Comfort receiving and incorporating constructive feedback
  • Conflict mitigation and consensus-building skills
  • A mentoring mindset to support junior scientists

This is not a role for someone who prefers to work in isolation.

What Success Looks Like

In this role, you will:

  • Build enterprise-grade agentic AI capabilities
  • Establish frameworks for autonomous decision-making and planning
  • Lead the productionization of advanced RL systems
  • Drive measurable business impact through intelligent automation
  • Help shape the future direction of Enterprise AI initiatives
