Position Summary Columbia University's Office of Public Affairs is seeking a highly skilled and organized Senior Media Producer with a strong background in videography to support the creation of high-quality multimedia content for the University's digital and social platforms. This role is hands-on and production-focused, with an emphasis on filming, editing, and producing video content that highlights Columbia's academic excellence, research, and community. Reporting to the Executive Director of Video Services, the Senior Media Producer works closely with colleagues across the Office of Public Affairs and partner units to plan and execute video and audio projects from concept through delivery. The role balances field and studio production, post-production, and platform management, and supports broader public-facing communications efforts across the University. Responsibilities
- Film, produce, and edit high-quality video content for Columbia's news, web, and social media platforms.
- Serve as a lead or supporting producer on assigned projects, managing production tasks from concept through completion.
- Conduct on-location and studio video shoots, ensuring technical readiness for lighting, audio, and camera setup.
- Edit video content for digital distribution, ensuring strong storytelling, pacing, and visual consistency.
- Support audio and podcast production, including recording, basic editing, and repurposing existing content when needed and comfortable with on microphone or host role.
- Assist with managing and maintaining video platform such as Columbia's YouTube, Vimeo, and podcast platforms, including uploads, metadata, and accessibility standards.
- Coordinate schedules, production logistics, and approvals with internal stakeholders and partners.
- Write concise, engaging copy to accompany video and audio content.
- Maintain organized project files and contribute to production workflows and best practices.
- Stay current on trends in videography, digital storytelling, and higher education media.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and or equivalent.
- At least 3 to 5 years of professional experience in video production, documentary, journalism, or branded content.
- Strong videography skills, including camera operation, lighting, and audio capture.
- Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent.
- Experience producing content for digital and social platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and Vimeo.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across the University.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in film, video production, or a related field.
- Experience working in higher education or research-driven environments.
- Familiarity with podcast production tools and distribution platforms.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices for video and audio content.
