University Communications (UComm) advances the mission of the university, as well as its reputation and identity as a leading academic and urban research institution. UComm leverages strategic communications planning, media relations, branding, marketing, executive communications, and a wide range of digital media, to tell the stories of the university and its people in support of the university's strategic goals and mission to serve students.
Under the federate model, the Marketing and Communications Program Director leads the strategic marketing and communications efforts for the CU Denver College of Arts and Media (CAM), driving enrollment growth, enhancing brand visibility, and supporting the college's mission. This position is responsible for developing and executing integrated marketing and communication strategies that align with both university-wide initiatives and the specific goals of the CAM. The program director reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications and the Dean of the college to ensure cohesive messaging across all platforms, brand consistency, and effective stakeholder engagement.
This role will work with CAM leadership, university colleagues, and external partners to creatively showcase the college's mission, vision, and student, faculty and alumni work, and to advance the college's reputation locally and nationally.
The incumbent will work directly with CAM team staff members to create marketing and communications tools that support recruitment, student services, events, academic and professional program management, advancement and alumni relations, finance, and more. The individual will also work closely with UComm staff as well as other communicators as needed across campus. The program director provides CAM-related content to UComm as directed for university wide use including news releases, CUDN, social media and marketing.
Marketing and Communications Program Director, CAM
What you will do:
Leadership:
* Create and implement multi-channel marketing strategy and communications that support the mission, vision, and strategic goals of CAM and CU Denver
* Supervise and provide leadership for professional and student staff including the Communications Program Manager.
* Direct the work of marketing/communications in CAM.
* Builds and upholds community relationships with key stakeholders, prominent organizations, and creative industry influencers
* Serve as the school's liaison to and work collaboratively with other marketing and communication professionals on campus, in the university system and with communications partners across the creative industries.
* Serve as primary liaison between UComm and CAM
* Facilitate relationships with UComm and CAM key stakeholders (i.e. department chairs, departmental program directors, CAM recruitment team, CAM leadership team)
Marketing:
* Research, plan, execute, measure, and adjust CAM funded programmatic and digital marketing campaigns and brand awareness campaigns driven by KPIs, conversions, and analytics
* Oversee and participate in the planning and completion of all print and digital communications including:
o writing for web with focus on SEO/ GEO content
o creating digital ad, search ad, and print ad copy
o news stories, success profiles, paid and earned media
o print and digital recruitment marketing materials
* Collaborate and advise UComm on the development and launch of UComm funded marketing campaigns.
* Identify and develop content for advertisements and sponsorships promoting CAM
* Ensure that all publications and produced materials are of the highest quality, conform to university and school branding guidelines, convey consistent organizational imaging, meet state and federal requirements for accessibility, and are appropriate for intended audiences.
Communications:
* Supervise and ensure the development and maintenance of effective contact lists and databases to be used for distributing publications, news, fundraising, and event information.
* Serve as a strategic partner in facilitating the internal communications of the College of Arts & Media
* Collaborate with the Dean and Advancement to create communications for fundraising
* Ensure alignment of messaging in events for prospective and current students, gallery openings, and special events
Digital Channel Management
* Lead and oversee CAM's website strategy and development aligned to university strategy and protocols
* Lead website migration in partnership with CAM leadership and UCOMM web team
* Strategize, develop and manage drip campaigns to prospective students in partnership with CAM recruitment team and UComm
Admissions Communications Director
* Develop and oversee CAM's social media strategy
* Develop and oversee CAM's digital signage strategy
Budget & Purchasing
* Budget development and oversight of marketing budget, approximately $100,000 annually
* Oversee sponsorship requests, evaluations, and approvals
* Oversee and approve marketing related purchases; initiate purchases as needed
* Assist with vendor management as needed (swag, tech, print and design services)
Photo/Video
* Responsible for ensuring proper photo/video coverage of CAM events
* Work with UComm to ensure proper visuals are captured for signature events.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
* Bachelor's degree in marketing, graphic design, media arts, interactive media, journalism, public relations, communications, public administration, business (with a communication/marketing focus), or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
* Extensive, diverse, and progressively responsible experience developing, and executing successful strategy, design, marketing, brand management, and/or advertising initiatives.
* Four years of relevant marketing/communications experience and proven professional experience in the fields of branding, marketing and communications.
* Experience working in CMS and CMM platforms.
* Experience working in data and data dashboard platforms.
* Three or more years of experience in the areas of web development, digital communication, and/or social media marketing
Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)
* Master's degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications, business administration or another closely related field.
* Five years of experience in a progressively responsible communications and/or marketing role, including experience in creating and implementing communications and marketing strategies.
* Experience working in a communications and marketing role in nonprofit, government and/or higher education.
* Two years of experience using CRM technologies

* Ability to write, edit, proofread, publish, and produce print and web content and communications materials.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

* Demonstrated ability to develop, apply and standardize metrics and analytics to measure the cost, reach, and impact of key messages, communications strategies, and tactics
* Demonstrated ability to increase enrollment or engagement in academic or volunteer programs evidenced in application materials
* Demonstrate an exceptional understanding of access and engagement with a commitment to developing equitable practices.
* Familiarity with and capacity to employ web content management systems.
* Professional expertise to innovate, initiate and complete effective and research-based communication, marketing and branding strategies.
* Ability to use analytics to measure and evaluate marketing and communications strategies.
* Ability to manage a diverse workload with multiple priorities.
* Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and other graphics programs.
* Ability to maintain a climate that is collegial, treats faculty, staff, and learners fairly and is hospitable to creativity and innovation.
Conditions of Employment
* This position requires an onsite presence on campus 3 days a week.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $94,411 - $104,349.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
