Job Summary:

As a Usability Engineering Intern, you will work with a Usability team that supports new product development and product enhancement projects in the Acute Care Technologies R&D division in Chelmsford MA You will have opportunities to learn about and to participate in usability engineering activities such as developing usability plans, conduct task analysis, use-related hazards analysis, planning and executing formative and summative usability tests and authoring usability documentation for design history files. You may have opportunities to shadow users of defibrillator monitors and ventilators.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in task analysis
  • Identification of use hazards and participate in use-related risk analysis
  • Conduct MAUDE searches and perform complaints analysis as needed
  • Evaluate the usability of product designs
  • Create usability documentation for design history files, including usability plans, use specifications, usability audits, usability engineering files, and Usability Engineering reports
  • Work with other Usability Engineers to develop test protocols, conduct usability tests, analyze test results, and write test reports
  • Learn about medical device Human Factors standards and guidances and understand how to apply them

Skills Requirements:

  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Understanding of the Human Factors standards for medical device usability, including IEC 62366, 60601-1-6, the FDA Usability Engineering guidance, the MDR standards, and HE75is useful
  • Comfortable interacting with users and internal stakeholders
  • Is a team player; can work well with other Usability team members and with people on a development team

Required/Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Currently matriculating in an undergraduate 4-year college degree program, preferably in Human Factors, Bio-Medical Engineering, or other Engineering discipline
  • Prior experience working in medical device development is a plus
  • Familiarity with the product development process is helpful

The hourly pay rate for this position is:

$27.00 to $27.00
