The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology supports the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC), West Chester Hospital (WCH), University of Cincinnati Cancer Center (UCCC), and the Cincinnati Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The Division collaborates with the Bone Marrow Transplant program, an Experimental Therapeutics program, a Hemophilia Center, a Sickle Cell Disease Center and supports the nine (9) clinical centers of excellence of the UC Cancer Center. Research labs provide venues for translational studies. In addition, many opportunities exist on campus for access to resources in immunobiology, laboratory medicine, transfusion medicine, cell mediated therapy and cancer biology at the University of Cincinnati Medical College, the Hoxworth Blood Center, and the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.



The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is seeking an MD clinician to work with the Gastroenterology section with advanced expertise in gastrointestinal motility and Neurogastroenterology. This faculty candidate will be recruited at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level.Final faculty rank will be commensurate with experience.



This is a clinical academic mission position, with support for research, teaching, and administration. This position is supported by dedicated administrative staff and advanced practice providers. Compensation is highly competitive with the opportunity for incentives based on clinical and/or academic productivity.

Essential Functions

  • Provide comprehensive adult gastroenterology care across UC Health sites, including but not necessarily limited to University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC), UC West Chester Hospital, and University Endoscopy Center.
  • Deliver 6+ weeks of inpatient gastroenterology service annually.
  • Provide 6+ weeks of annual call coverage.
  • Maintain a balanced outpatient and procedural schedule, including: Three (3) half-day outpatient gastroenterology clinics per week; Five (5) half-day endoscopy sessions per week; Establish and lead the first Motility and Neurogastroenterology Clinic at UC, which will involve: Evaluating patients with a full spectrum of neurogastrointestinal and motility disorders, including difficulty swallowing and esophageal motility disorders, abnormal gastrointestinal motility, chronic constipation, functional bowel disorders, disorders of gut-brain interaction, and other complex neurogastrointestinal conditions; Performing comprehensive diagnostic evaluations of complex gastrointestinal motility and related disorders to develop individualized short and long term care plans.

  • Conducting specialized diagnostic procedures, including esophageal and anorectal manometry, motility studies, and other advanced physiologic assessments.
  • Leading a multidisciplinary, patient centered approach to complex motility and neurogastrointestinal diseases, integrating gastroenterology, colorectal surgery, pelvic floor therapy, behavioral health, nutrition, and other specialties as appropriate.
  • Providing biofeedback therapy in the clinical setting indicated as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
  • Developing and launching a new, comprehensive neurogastroenterology clinic with unique diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, emphasizing multidisciplinary care pathways and innovative treatment models.
  • Delivering general gastroenterology care with a specialized emphasis on neurogastrointestinal disorders.
  • Providing specialized therapeutic interventions, including anorectal biofeedback therapy.
  • Providing general gastroenterology care and supporting multidisciplinary teams, including colorectal surgery, urology, and gynecology.

  • Contribute to the care of gastroenterology, liver, pancreatic, and complex GI patients as part of the broader Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology service line.
  • Teach fellows and residents. Precept fellow clinics and lead didactic sessions during inpatient rounding. Develop a formal training curriculum in neurogastroenterology for fellows, residents, and advanced practice providers. Provide structured didactic education through division wide lectures, motility focused educational sessions, and regional presentations to enhance awareness of the new Neurogastroenterology and Motility Center. Lead journal clubs and case conferences. Mentor trainees in clinical research, scholarly writing, and preparation of presentations for national meetings.
  • Participate in and initiate research projects. These include Motility-focused clinical trials, collaborative translational research with institutional partners, and development of motility and Neurogastroenterology databases and registries.
  • Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to national guidelines and expert recommendations.


Advance the academic mission of the Division through national engagement, including participation in the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society.

Minimum Requirements

Prior to effective date of appointment, all of the following:




  • Medical degree (MD/DO)
  • State of Ohio Medical License
  • Completion of a 3-year Internal Medicine Residency
  • Completion of a 3-year Gastroenterology fellowship
  • Completion of a 1-year Advanced Fellowship in Gastrointestinal Motility, Neurogastroenterology, or a fellowship which is a combination of the two
