Position Overview

dormakaba is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern based in Indianapolis, IN (onsite). This role will report directly to the Mechanical Engineer III. The Mechanical Engineer Intern will be responsible for updating and maintaining designs, assessing risks for recommendations, and performing testing and analyses.

HOURLY HIRING RANGE: $21/hr. - $25/hr. (Pay rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

What you will do
  • Learn and implement mechanical engineering design processes and practices, including writing requirements, CAD modeling, and prototype methodology
  • Patent analysis
  • Learn to write a test plan based on engineering analysis; implement a plan in a certified test lab
  • Attend weekly lunch and learn sessions where you will learn more about a Business Topic of the Week! Past topics include Top 10 Presentation Skills, Environmental Health and Safety, StrengthsFinder, etc.
  • Attend meetings both within and beyond your designated role to broaden your engagement; schedule routine check-in meetings with your supervisor to monitor the advancement of assigned projects
What we require
  • Some professional experience in CAD and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems
  • Familiarity with common hand tools and measurement systems
  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field with anticipated graduation date in December 2025 through Spring 2028
  • Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week for 10-12 weeks (May-August 2025)
What we prefer
  • Coursework in Materials, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Previous internship experience
  • Familiarity with common engineering standards (ex: ASME)
