About Morningstar

Morningstar is a leading provider of independent investment research, ratings, and data. Our mission is to empower investor success-and that starts with strong, modern, and wellrun internal Finance operations. We're strengthening how Finance delivers largescale initiatives across systems, processes, and analytics.

The Group:

Morningstar is looking for a Finance Project Manager to join our global Finance Systems and Business Intelligence team. This team is responsible for overseeing the direction of Morningstar's finance system infrastructure and business intelligence strategy across a global organization, including managing data analysis, reporting, and system implementation to provide crucial insights for decision-making within the finance department.

The Opportunity:

In this role, you'll lead Finance Systems initiatives from concept through delivery-projects that may include financial system implementation, process improvements, reporting, or transformation efforts. You'll work closely with Finance leaders, corporate technology partners, and crossfunctional teams to ensure work is prioritized clearly, delivered predictably, and aligned to business goals.

This role blends traditional project ownership with Agile delivery practices. You'll help teams plan work, focus on the highestvalue outcomes, and continuously improve how work gets done while keeping processes lightweight and effective. You will drive execution while helping teams work in an agile, collaborative, and outcome focused way. The role reports to Morningstar's Head of Finance Systems and Business Intelligence and is based in a Morningstar's Chicago office.

What You'll Do

Lead Finance Initiatives

  • Lead endtoend delivery of Finance initiatives (e.g., systems implementations, process redesigns, reporting enhancements, compliancedriven projects).

  • Partner with Finance, Accounting, FP&A, Corporate Systems, and external vendors to define scope, success metrics, dependencies, and delivery plans.

  • Ensure alignment with Finance priorities, regulatory considerations, and internal control requirements.

  • Manage timelines, risks, issue escalation, and communications to ensure predictable delivery and stakeholder alignment.

Enable Agile Ways of Working

  • Facilitate Agile delivery for Finance Systems initiatives using Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid approaches.

  • Lead planning, standups, reviews, and retrospectives to help teams stay focused and responsive.

  • Partner with business owners to translate Finance technology & automation requests into clear, prioritized work plans.

  • Remove blockers and help teams navigate crossteam interdependencies.

Drive Transparency & Continuous Improvement

  • Provide clear, simple reporting on progress, risks, and outcomes for Finance leadership.

  • Use data and feedback to improve delivery predictability and team effectiveness.

  • Promote practical Agile practices that fit a Finance environment-not "agile for agile's sake."

  • Proactively raise projects risks (resource constraints, significant system blocker etc.) to leadership for actioning and push for resolution

What You Bring

Required

  • 7+ years of experience in project or program management, preferably within Finance, Accounting, or Finance Systems.

  • Experience delivering work using Agile or hybrid Agile methodologies.

  • Strong understanding of Finance processes and how systems support them.

  • Proven ability to lead crossfunctional teams without direct authority.

  • Clear communication skills and comfort working with senior stakeholders.

  • Experience with delivery tools such as Jira, Confluence, Asana, or similar.

  • Ability to understand and translate complex technical concepts for non-technical users

  • Bachelor's Degree.

Preferred

  • Experience with Finance systems (ERP, planning, consolidation, T&E, or reporting tools).

  • Scrum Master, PMP, or Agile certification.

  • Experience supporting Finance transformation or system modernization efforts.

  • Comfort working in a global, matrixed organization.

What Success Looks Like

  • Finance initiatives are delivered on time with clear visibility into progress, risks, and outcomes.

  • Stakeholders understand priorities and tradeoffs, and delivery teams stay focused on the highestvalue work.
