Job Summary
The Senior Project Manager - GIS is responsible for leading the successful delivery of a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) upgrade initiative within a utility environment. This role manages end to end project execution, ensuring alignment with established project management standards, methodologies, and governance requirements. The Senior Project Manager collaborates with cross functional technical and business stakeholders, oversees vendor performance, and ensures project scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives are achieved. The position requires strong leadership, risk management, and stakeholder engagement skills in a complex, fast paced environment. Job Responsibilities
Lead end to end delivery of GIS upgrade initiatives, ensuring alignment with approved scope, schedule, cost, and quality objectives
Collaborate with cross functional stakeholders including IT, operational technology, infrastructure, cybersecurity, testing teams, business units, and external partners
Coordinate and govern activities performed by system integrators, including task planning, deliverable reviews, issue resolution, and change control
Ensure project execution follows established project management methodologies, standards, templates, and reporting requirements
Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, RAID logs, status reports, executive communications, and related documentation
Facilitate working sessions, design reviews, and decision forums related to GIS data modeling, workflows, and system integrations
Partner with subject matter experts to validate data modeling approaches, standards, and implementation readiness
Identify and manage risks and dependencies related to data quality, system integration, resource availability, and cutover activities
Manage project communications to ensure alignment across technical and business stakeholders
Oversee project financials, including budget management, forecasting, accrual reporting, and tracking actuals versus plan
Lead multiple workstreams simultaneously within a complex technical environment
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Management, Business Administration, or a related field
Minimum of 10 years of project management experience
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required
Strong understanding of project management fundamentals including scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality, and contract management
Experience leading technical teams across multiple disciplines
Experience supporting system upgrades, migrations, or platform modernization initiatives
Working knowledge of operational technology systems such as GIS, ADMS, SCADA, and OMS
Demonstrated stakeholder management, vendor management, and quality governance experience
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products and project portfolio management tools
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical, organizational, decision making, and problem solving abilities
Ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast paced and complex environment
Must reside in New Jersey and be able to work onsite in South Plainfield three days per week
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Management, Business Administration, or related field required
Work Experience
10 or more years of progressive project management experience
Experience within a utility environment (electric, gas, or combined utility) preferred
