Position: Safety & Health Manager

Primary Location: Home-Based, USA

Reports To: Regional EHS Manager

Compensation: $132,000-$142,000 USD + bonus + benefits.

The Safety and Health Manager will be a dynamic change leader who will deliver targeted improvements that will increase and sustained safety performance across the organization. This role will provide strategic and tactical leadership in implementing safety step changes using the transformational change approach through a team composed of permanent and temporary positions and in function of the required change set forth by Chemtrade senior leaders. This role will ensure that changes are properly defined, scoped, planned, resourced, budgeted, communicated, executed through established management of change including but not limited to training needs, and measured for proper anchoring across the sites. The role will interact with senior leaders such as Manufacturing, EHS, Transportation and all other functions relevant to the change at hand. Occasional interactions with the Chemtrade Senior Leadership Team is also expected.

About This Role and About You

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

* Partner with senior leaders in Manufacturing, EHS and all other relevant functions to set and align short term and long-term vision on the safety step changes required to get Chemtrade to a sustained, world class safety performance.
* Provide through leadership by challenging visions to higher or different expectations; being able to envision what good looks like and how to get there.
* Identifying strategic step changes and opportunities to meet the vision.
* Build relationships with other functions and stakeholders in the organization who will and need to contribute to the identified step changes.
Planning and scoping the change

* Establish tactical and strategic elements needed to carry out the change such as, but not limited to, the right methodology in measuring the starting point and subsequent progress, identifying key inputs at the source needed to scope and execute the change, team composition (full or part time members) , approach in implementation (pilot site, at large, other), approach on training (F2F, Virtual, LMS, etc...), timeline, communication plan, etc....
* Ensure the usage of LSS tools to quickly assess starting points on performance of a plant / organization, just as to identify opportunities to improve and reach end goal .
* Identify through sound methodology all of the resources, budget, timing, and elements of management of change required for the change.

* Partner with senior leaders in Manufacturing, EHS and all other relevant functions to ensure strong coalition on the communication and sense of urgency in carrying out the change.
Leading and managing the change

* Ensure that all management of change elements are addressed in time and in quality during the course of the change.
* Adress any gaps in resourcing and commitment in a timely fashion.
* Ensure that progress and set-backs are properly measured and communicated throughout the course of the change to all relevant functions and levels of the organization.
* Ensure that the site(s) are properly supported on execution through each step of implementation.
* Ensure that the training plan is properly executed and measured for feedback so to improve on a continuous basis during deployment.
* Establish approach to measure anchoring of the change and execute accordingly.

Other Duties may be assigned at any time.

Qualifications:

* 4 Year Bachelor's degree in ES&H or a related field (Chemical or Health & Safety degree desirable). Master's degree preferred.
* Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience related to safety management, preferably in chemical manufacturing environment.
* Highly motivated and results-oriented.
* Ability to interact and influence with all levels of the organization
* Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Ability to build consensus and influence others.
* Leading and managing change skills.
* Exceptional organization. Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills including critical thinking.
* Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
* Ability to develop budget plans and forecasts.
* Advanced knowledge of US EHS regulations, management systems, regulatory agencies, trends and resources.
* High proficiency in Microsoft Software (Word, Excel and Access), extensive Internet search capabilities, and AI.
* Travel Required: Between 50% to 75%

Desirable skills:

    Professional and/or industry certifications in environmental, safety, or industrial hygiene Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, etc.
  • Training or knowledge of Hazardous material response (40 hr. Haz-Mat Technician level) and confined space rescue.
  • Experience with implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) programs. Ability to conduct Process Hazard Analysis using HAZOP or equivalent method.
  • Knowledge of Responsible Care, Responsible Care Codes or other EHS Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with ANSI, API, NFPA and other recognized industry standards.
  • Knowledge of databases and ability to use databases for trending.
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation requirements.
  • First Aid / CPR Certification
  • Ability to adapt to changing list of priorities based on needs of the company, regulatory compliance, and management of risk.
