Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, graphic design, or a related discipline.
  • Prior experience working with and communicating effectively to audiences with lived experience related to behavioral health and developmental disabilities.
  • Experience translating research, training, or public service initiatives into clear, accessible communications for non-academic or public audiences.

Position Summary
The Marketing and Public Relations Professional supports the communications, marketing, and public-facing engagement efforts of the Ralston Institute for Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, a UGA institute housed within the University of Georgia College of Family and Consumer Sciences ( FACS). The position plays a supportive role in amplifying the Institute's research, training, technical assistance, and policy-related work in behavioral health and developmental disabilities.
This position reports to the Executive Director of the Ralston Institute for Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities and works closely with FACS College, UGA Marketing and Communication teams, other marketing and public relations personnel at the Ralston Institute. This role is responsible for creating campaigns, generating and scheduling content, and translating complex research that aligns with the institute's mission, brand, and image, which includes engaging communications for broad audiences, including policymakers, practitioners, students, families, funders, and the public.
The Marketing and Public Relations Professional develops high-quality visual and digital materials, supports Institute publications and events, manages social media content, and ensures that all materials align with University of Georgia brand guidelines. The position involves strong independent judgment, creativity, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while supporting a growing, high-visibility institute with statewide reach.
Assignments are performed with minimal supervision and require excellent organization, and initiative. The position involves a team mindset with an individual that understands the power of creative collaboration and the importance of support and execution of ideas and innovative approaches to strengthen the Institute's communications strategy and public presence.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, compelling, and audience-appropriate messages.
  • Demonstrated expertise in social media strategy and platform management, including content scheduling, campaign execution, and building a cohesive digital and online presence across multiple channels.
  • Experience developing and managing content calendars and using analytics to assess performance and inform continuous improvement.
  • Strong understanding of best practices for digital engagement, accessibility, and visual storytelling.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite software, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common digital collaboration tools.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, community partners, and external audiences.
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and adaptable professional with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to learn about behavioral health, developmental disabilities, and public systems, and to stay current with evolving digital communication trends.
  • Willingness to support occasional evening or weekend activities related to digital engagement or event promotion.
  • Alignment with and appreciation for the mission of the Ralston Institute, the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, and the University of Georgia.

  • Develop and design visual, digital, and print materials that promote the Ralston Institute's research, training programs, workforce initiatives, and outreach activities in alignment with UGA brand guidelines.
  • Translate complex behavioral health and developmental disability topics into clear, accessible, and engaging communications for multiple audiences.
  • Strategize, plan, and manage the Institute's social media presence, including content calendars, goal setting, engagement strategies, and analytics reporting
  • Develop and implement event-specific digital promotion strategies, including social media campaigns, email communications and website updates, to maximize visibility and participation.
  • Monitor communication trends and best practices and apply them to the Institute's digital and social media efforts.
  • Collaborate with campus communicators and assist with cross-unit coordination on Institute-related communications.
  • Provide social media analytics and content summaries for annual reports, grant reports, and Institute publications.
  • Assist with the design and production of Institute reports, briefs, toolkits, and other publications.
  • Support the broader Ralston Institute engagement efforts by producing high-quality print, email, and digital materials.
  • Ensure that all promotional materials, including flyers, brochures, event graphics, and digital signage, are current and compliant with UGA brand standards.
  • Assist with logo approval requests and brand compliance processes.
  • Participate in website management efforts to ensure Institute web content is accurate, timely, and reflective of high professional standards.
  • Support behavioral health and developmental disability workforce engagement initiatives through targeted content creation and promotion.
  • Assist in conceptualizing, marketing, and delivering Institute events, convenings, and public-facing activities.
  • Perform other marketing and communications relevant duties as assigned.

  • Coordinate with Institute leadership, faculty, staff, and students to support marketing and communications for Institute-sponsored events throughout the year.
  • Lead visual and promotional components for key events, which may include statewide convenings, training sessions, public forums, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Provide design and communications support for events such as recognition ceremonies, workforce and training events, and collaborative partner gatherings.
  • Develop and implement event-specific digital promotion strategies, including social media campaigns, email communications, and website updates, to maximize visibility and participation.
  • Capture and curate event-related content, including photos, short videos, and key highlights, for post-event communications and ongoing Institute storytelling.
  • Assist with post-event communications, including recap materials, social media posts, and content for reports, newsletters, or the Institute website.
