Overview:

We are seekingan early career Control Systems Engineerwho will focus ondeveloping, implementing, andmaintainingPLC base control systems for SNS CF and Vacuum systems.This positionresidesin theConventional Facilities and Vacuum Controls Groupin theControl Systems Section,Research Accelerator Division,Neutron Sciences DirectorateatOak Ridge National Laboratory(ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Generatecontrolrequirements,designPLChardwareandsoftware,implement designedsolution and test forvarious subsystems that control andmonitorthe SNSCF and Vacuum systems

  • ProvideoperationalsupportfortheSNSAcceleratorControlSystemincludingsomeoff-hoursandweekend work asrequiredto support the 24/7 operational needs tomaintainhigh reliability

  • Troubleshootandmaintaincontrolsystemsanddevelopsolutionstoaddressobsolescentissueswithaging controls hardware

  • WorkinaccordancewithORNL,NScD,SNSandControlSystemsGroupproceduresandprogramsincludingEHS&Q

  • Workinvolvesvariousphysicalrequirementsandworkingconditions(examplesarelifting 40lb, climbing ladders, stairwells, etc.)

Basic Qualifications:

  • ABSdegree in electrical, electro-mechanical, industrial, controlsengineering or relatedfield

  • Afundamental knowledge of ProgrammableLogicControllers (PLC) based systems

  • Fundamental technical knowledge in discrete and analog circuits plus basic operation of test equipment (multi-meters, oscilloscopes, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience implementing controls solutions using Rockwell Allen-Bradley programmable logic controllers, programingHMIswithRockwellFactoryTalkView ME,andusingControlNet,DeviceNet,Ethernet,andvarious serial communication protocols

  • Employee maybe requiredto work near radiation, cryogenic and electrically controlled areas and could involveclimbingladdersandtheuseoffallprotection;therefore,thecandidatemustbeabletoacquireandmaintainappropriate trainingand qualifications to work in these areas and follow all safety instructions

  • Excellent written and oral communicationskills

  • Motivatedself-starterwiththeabilitytoworkindependentlyandtoparticipatecreativelyincollaborative teams across the laboratory

  • Abilitytofunctionwellinafast-pacedresearchenvironment,setprioritiestoaccomplishmultipletaskswithin deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs

  • Basic knowledge of the Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System (EPICS)
