Supervisor - Material Handling & Inventory Control

SP Industries Inc. is expanding our team in Pocomoke City, MD and have an immediate opening for a Material Handling & Inventory Control Supervior. In this role, the right candidate will be responsible for coordinating daily workflow for material handlers and inventory control personnel to ensure materials are available to support production and inventory remains accurate. This role provides employee direction, supports supervisors/managers in the control and execution of processes, investigates inventory discrepancies, and drives process improvements to enhance accuracy, service levels, and efficiency.



Schedule:6:00am - 2:30pm, Monday-Friday (overtime as business needs require)



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Supervision & Leadership



  • Assign, coordinate, and prioritize daily work for Material Handling and Inventory Control teams in alignment with operational needs.
  • Directly manage both groups; partner closely with the Inventory Control Team Lead to execute daily inventory workflows and sustain standards.
  • Coach, train, and develop employees; ensure teamwork and effective communication across shifts/areas.
  • Complete standard supervisor responsibilities including performance feedback, documentation, and corrective/disciplinary action when required (per company policy).
  • Approve employee timecards and ensure accurate time reporting.
  • Request/justify overtime (OT) to the Logistics/Inventory Manager based on workload, priorities, and coverage needs.



Material Availability & Production Support



  • Ensure the proper types of raw materials are available on time, in the correct location, and in sufficient quantities to support manufacturing operations.
  • Direct material handlers to supply production lines, stock materials, and stage or set aside product as required.
  • Oversee accurate tracking of material locations and movement to prevent shortages, misplacements, and downtime.

Inventory Control & Discrepancy Resolution

  • Investigate issues concerning lost, misplaced, or inaccurate inventory; determine root cause and report findings to required parties.
  • Ensure cycle counts are performed to narrow down discrepancies and locate missing inventory.
  • Utilize Syteline (Bel-Art system) to complete inventory transactions and adjustments needed to maintain accuracy.
  • Ensure the Inventory Control team effectively utilizes the Inventory App as part of daily inventory workflows (alongside Syteline).
  • Respond to emails/inquiries regarding lost or misplaced inventory throughout the plant and coordinate timely resolution.
  • Be a key figure in the planning, leading, and execution of the Year-End Physical Inventory process.



Metrics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement



  • Report daily/weekly performance metrics for the team and communicate priorities, gaps, and actions to leadership.
  • Assist with identifying and implementing departmental process improvements (inventory accuracy, material flow, storage practices, cycle count effectiveness).
  • Ensure safe, effective operation of forklifts and other material handling equipment; verify required certifications/training are maintained.
  • Maintain workplace cleanliness and coordinate clean-up and special projects as needed.
  • Support physical inventory activities; may travel to other warehouses during company physical inventory when required.
  • Consistently meet and exceed established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) by maintaining high-quality work, strong productivity, and adherence to organizational performance standards.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated leadership ability; ability to work under minimal supervision while maintaining a team atmosphere.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to count accurately.
  • Ability to stay on an issue until the problem is solved; strong follow-through.
  • Basic computer literacy; ability to learn and effectively use Syteline and related inventory tools.
  • Familiarity with warehouse operations preferred.
  • Forklift experience/certification (or ability to obtain/maintain per company requirements).
  • Valid driver's license (if required by site policy).
  • High school diploma or GED required/preferred (per company standard).
  • Preferred: 3+ years of manufacturing, distribution, or warehouse experience with inventory responsibility.
  • Preferred: Experience with ERP inventory control (Syteline), scanners/data entry, and discrepancy investigations.
