ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides nursing care within his/her scope of practice from the initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility; maintains thorough patient care documentation.
  • Maintains competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences. Communicates educational needs to program leadership.
  • Maintains documentation of required licensure, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures and attends continuing education programs pertinent to his/her area of practice.
  • Knowledgeable in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies used by Mercyhealth. Responsible for reporting medical equipment failures and taking initial steps to insure repair of equipment as directed. Maintains adequate supplies onboard aircraft or ambulance to deliver patient care. Keeps aircraft or ambulance clean and orderly to insure rapid response to all transport requests.
  • Functions as a medical transport member by attending pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and completing necessary documentation. Assists in pre-mission liftoff checklist and assists pilot as requested,
  • i.e., radio, navigational, and visual observation activities. Complies with safety standards to assure safety of self, medical personnel, patient, and equipment and conducts aircraft safety briefings as needed.
  • Serves as a resource to neonatal/pediatric partners.
  • Participates in patient and referring institution follow-up and in planned outreach marketing and education activities
  • Assist with the routine maintenance of aircraft or ambulance, equipment and facilities to ensure a clean and professional appearance
  • Acts as a preceptor and/or participates in orientation of new employees and students as assigned and communicates program goals and objectives.
  • Participates regularly in Mercyhealth meetings, activities, projects and committees (to include research and publishing opportunities).
  • Develops, initiates and executes a patient plan of care according to the patient's individualized needs, as prescribed by the physician and/or hospital policy.
  • Utilizes resources available to teach and support patient and family education.
  • Maintains specified number of shifts on a critical care unit (ICU, SCU, ED), as well as on the critical care/ ALS ground transport service.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

ADN required, BSN Preferred

Previous flight experience preferred.

Minimum of (3) three years critical care or emergency department RN experience. Preferred: Five (5) years of RN experience. Must include ICU or CCU and/or ED experience in a high-volume setting.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Licensed as an RN in state of practice.

License as an RN in both WI and IL within 3 months. Current certifications in American Heart Association BLS; ACLS required within 3 months of hire.

Current certification in American Heart Association PALS within 6 months.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within (3) three months of hire.

National Institute Healthcare Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required within (1) one year of hire.

Pre-Hospital Registered Nurse (PHRN) required within (1) one year of hire.

Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) within 12 months of hire.

Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) or Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS) required within 9 months of hire.

Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) required within 32 months of hire.

NIMS Training IS 100, 200, and HazMat awareness within 6 months of hire.

EVOC Driving course completion within (3) months of hire

Certified American Heart Association Instructor in at least one level (BLS, ACLS, PALS) within (2) two years of hire

For those driving Mercyhealth vehicles:

Maintain a valid driver's license.

Have and maintain an acceptable driving record per Mercyhealth HR.100 Fleet and Driver Safety policy.

For those driving their personal vehicles:

Maintain a valid driver's license and reliable transportation with proof of vehicle insurance when requested. Have and maintain an acceptable driving record per Mercyhealth HR.100 Fleet and Driver Safety policy.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Passing the Driver's License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring).

Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check.

Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.

When functioning in the ambulance, acts in a supervisory position when assigned as Crew Chief of the ambulance as outlined with the respective roles and responsibilities of the position

PAY RANGE:

$41.18 - $65.89
