Summary
At Howard Community College, we are dedicated to providing high-quality, accessible education to a diverse student population. Currently, we seek a passionate and experienced English faculty member to join our team and contribute to our mission of fostering student success through exceptional teaching and learning. We are looking for a full-time, budgeted, 10-month faculty member who will excel in delivering engaging and effective English instruction in a variety of courses, such as college composition, corequisite support courses, information literacy, multilingual English instruction, and literature. Courses are taught through various teaching modalities, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid, and may be taught during the day or evening. Class sessions will be a mixture of traditional and accelerated term lengths. Top applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, possess strong communication skills, value collaboration and teamwork, and have a proven track record of working with a diverse student body.

Requirements:

* The position requires a Master's degree in English (or a related field)
* Community college and/or university teaching experience in English courses
* Proficiency in instructional technology and pedagogy, including learning management systems.
Essential Role Responsibilities
* Teach a variety of English courses, such as college composition, corequisite support course, information literacy, ESL/ MEL, and literature.
* Develop and implement engaging and effective instructional materials and strategies for a variety of course modalities and term lengths.
* Utilize education technology effectively, including Learning Management Systems ( LMS), online course development tools, and free/low-cost software programs.
* Develop formative and summative assessments.
* Engage in curriculum development and assessment processes.
* Collaborate with colleagues to enhance educational practices and support student success.
* Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
* Contribute meaningfully to the English Department, including participating in meetings, committee work, professional development activities, college-wide initiatives, and community outreach activities.
* Cultivate and maintain constructive and supportive relationships with students, staff, and faculty members.
* Pursue teaching improvement and professional development
* Teach 30 credits per year of English courses.
* Hold office hours as stipulated by the collective bargaining agreement
* Fulfill these and other responsibilities of full-time faculty in accordance with collective bargaining agreement and college policies.

Howard Community College offers competitive salaries, excellent medical and dental selections, tuition reimbursement and paid leave programs. As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
