Job Summary :

Our client is seeking an experienced Engineer III to support the Secondary License Renewal (SLR) program.

The Engineer III will bring deep nuclear power experience and plant-specific technical knowledge to ensure regulatory compliance, system adequacy, and proper integration of vendor deliverables. This role requires hands-on familiarity with nuclear operations, materials of construction, plant systems, and prior licensing experience - beyond a traditional engineering background.

The current SLR team is lean and highly collaborative. Two additional engineers are being added to support increased workload and program demands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Secondary License Renewal (SLR) initiatives for Prairie Island and Monticello

  • Review and validate vendor deliverables (e.g., Westinghouse) for technical adequacy

  • Ensure site-specific procedures incorporate licensing and regulatory requirements

  • Verify compliance with NRC regulations and code requirements

  • Support documentation development, validation, and incorporation into plant processes

  • Partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) at station sites to source and review technical documentation

  • Evaluate system performance, materials of construction, and operational considerations

  • Support design effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety assessments

  • Conduct root cause investigations and recommend quality improvements

  • Interface internally with program teams and externally with vendors

Team & Work Environment

  • Supports a core internal team of approximately five members

  • Works closely with vendors and project managers

  • Highly collaborative, team-oriented culture

  • Strong mentorship model with documented processes in place

  • Ramp-up expected within approximately one month

This role may include occasional facility tours or site visits but does not involve strenuous physical activity.

Required Qualifications

  • 8-12 years of nuclear energy experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering

  • Strong understanding of nuclear plant operations and system strategies (e.g., Fire Protection systems)

  • Experience supporting licensing programs or regulatory compliance initiatives

  • Knowledge of ASME code compliance and in-service testing requirements

  • Familiarity with SAP, P6 (Primavera), file sharing/document control systems

  • Experience navigating UKG/Workday

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with vendors and plant personnel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) license or certification preferred

  • Prior involvement in Secondary License Renewal (SLR) or extended license projects

  • Navy nuclear background (highly valued)

  • Participation or leadership in industry user groups

  • Program management exposure

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Strong attention to detail and regulatory rigor

  • Comfortable working in structured, documentation-heavy environments

  • Effective communicator with strong relationship management skills

  • Collaborative and humble approach to teamwork

  • Strong "handoff" and coordination skills across multiple vendor partners

  • Stable career history within nuclear industry
