Survey / Geospatial Technician I / II, Austin, TX Halff has an immediate opening for a Survey / Geospatial Technician to join an established survey team based out of our north Austin, TX office. The Survey/Geospatial Technician supports field and office operations for both conventional and geospatial surveys related to boundaries, topographic, and project control. This role involves operating conventional survey instruments, GNSS equipment and processing geospatial data to produce accurate deliverables in accordance with company and regulatory standards. They work closely with a team of professionals to collect, process, and manage field data, ensuring accurate and efficient execution of land surveying tasks. The Survey/Geospatial Technician has a key role in contributing to the success of projects and the growth of the firm by providing boots on the ground and technical in-office support. There may be a need for periodic travel outside of the home office area to conduct field surveys. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area or Survey. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of surveying practices and geospatial data registration, extraction and feature visualization. What you will do:
- Organize research for teams in the field, creating efficiencies in the overall project.
- Reducing filed observations.
- Preparing data for drafting.
- Assisting the RPLS by preparing Survey Reports.
- Preparing COGO calculations.
- Assisting the RPLS with Boundary Analysis.
- Process and manage collected survey data, including field notes, and GIS data.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure surveying requirements align with project goals and specifications.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols during fieldwork and data processing.
- Conduct surveys in the field using advanced geospatial equipment, such as total stations, GNSS receivers, and LiDAR scanners under the supervision of a Party Chief.
- Process and analyze geospatial data in the office, including GIS data, aerial imagery, data extraction and point cloud data, using software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and other industry-standard tools.
- Operate and maintain surveying/geospatial equipment and software for data collection and analysis.
- Create accurate and detailed topographic maps, as-built drawings, and land parcel maps.
- Collaborate with surveyors and engineers to ensure project objectives are met.
- Follow safety protocols and best practices in surveying.
What you will need:
- At least 2 years of experience as a Survey Technician.
- Experience in producing survey maps and plats.
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
- Proficiency in using surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors.
- Solid understanding of land surveying principles, techniques, and terminology.
- Software skills:
- Civil 3D or Open Roads (ORD)
- Trimble Business Center (TBC)
- Microsoft tools, i.e., Excel, Teams, etc.
- Experience with TopoDOT is a plus.
- SIT certification is a plus.
- CST Level II preferred.
- Basic knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) and its application in surveying.
- Strong mathematical skills and the ability to interpret technical drawings and maps.
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accuracy in data collection and analysis.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and conveying information clearly.
- Must be flexible, dependable, responsible and disciplined to be a positive representative for Halff and remain punctual on a consistent basis.
- Ability for overnight travel (with advanced notice) to conduct field surveys.
- Overtime and weekend work may be needed to meet project deadlines.

Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to travel to various work / office locations.
