As the Financial Management Analyst I, you'll be a vital part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team that supports units across the Provost Academic Support areas. You will serve as a trusted, firstpointofcontact resource-helping faculty and staff navigate financial processes with clarity, accuracy, and confidence.

The Financial Management Analyst I plays a highvisibility role, providing exceptional financial guidance, timely service, and consistent application of University policies. You will support procurement, budgeting, reconciliation, vendor and contract workflows, monthend close, and financial systems training-ensuring operational excellence and fostering a culture of accountability and partnership.



What You'll Do:

* Serve as the procurement expert for assigned units, advising on transaction appropriateness and recommending the optimal procurement mechanisms.

* Initiate or delegate purchase orders, Buy@Duke carts, journal vouchers, and accounts payable check requests in alignment with University policies.

* Request new financial codes and close dormant codes.

* Process and monitor incoming gifts and bursar deposits.

* Respond to balance inquiries and maintain accurate, timely financial documentation.

* Administer research subject payments-including cash, checks, and ClinCard-and act as fiduciary for cash funds.

* Support senior analysts with annual budget preparation and variance reporting.

* Train faculty and staff on Duke's financial systems and processes, including ETRs, APs, IRI, Buy@Duke, SAP R/3, and corporate card procedures.

* Monitor and resolve stuck workflow items.

* Oversee the corporate card program, liaising with card services, following up on overdue transactions, and processing new card requests or limit adjustments.

* Disburse and track internal seed and catalyst program funding.

* Complete monthend close procedures such as reconciliations using the FAM tool, overdraft review, and CAS compliance.

* Provide reporting to senior analysts on delinquent items, writeoffs, and interest charges.

* Review and distribute problem invoice reports.

* Serve as reconciliation tool expert and complete periodic financial lookbacks.

* Prepare analytical and narrative reports for assigned endowments.

* Collaborate with Principal Investigators and CGMT to process and close research expenditures.

* Manage high volumes of independent contractor agreements and Outside Services Agreements (OSAs).

* Provide backup support to team members, including I9 verification for student hires.

* Perform other duties as assigned to support seamless financial operations.



What You Bring:

Education

* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or a directly related field; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Experience

* No experience required with a qualifying bachelor's degree; relevant financial or administrative experience may substitute for education.

Skills & Strengths

* Strong problemsolving abilities with the capacity to handle competing priorities.

* Outstanding organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.

* Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities.

* Ability to work effectively at all organizational levels, influence decisions, and negotiate outcomes.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Duke systems such as Duke@Work and SAP.

* Comfort navigating new technologies and financial platforms.

Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $59,829.00 to USD $86,700.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
