Under the direction of and reporting to Technical Services/ Sample Supervisor, perform assigned cleaning and sanitation work in all functional/technical areas of Elkhart Lake Technical Center. Other duties in work areas such as Sensory, Packaging, S&R, and Product Development will be assigned as needed.

What You Do.



  • Self-motivated with keen attention to details in performing sanitation tasks as outlined by Technical Services Supervisor.
  • Work with a small team setting with other sanitation technicians to complete sanitation functions/duties to the Sargento standards to include:

    • Moving/Dismantling of machinery and equipment so that they can be thoroughly cleaned, sanitized according to Sargento standards.
    • Cleaning and sanitizing machinery, equipment, dishes, tools, counters, walls, and floor surfaces.
    • Use of cleaning solutions, chemicals, liquids, and caustics to remove excess food soils from machines, equipment, conveyors, floors, walls, tables, etc.
    • Reassembling of equipment.
    • Assist sanitation lead in inspection of lab facilities and equipment following clean-up for conformance to company standards. Responsible for the quality of work completed.
    • Removal of waste material and debris from the ELTC functional areas.
    • Use of a cabinet washer, chemical foamer, and commercial dishwasher will be required.


  • Support Package Engineering group with:

    • Packaging R&D material qualifications by performing package integrity testing of materials in packaging labs, pilot plant, and in manufacturing facilities.
    • Creation of production representative product and packaging in pilot plant for consumer and market testing.
    • Package prototype creation in packaging labs, pilot plant, and in manufacturing facilities.
    • Performing a variety of routine packaging lab tasks including operation and maintenance of test equipment and design tools and ordering stock materials.


  • Interacts with sensory panelists and assist Sensory Technician with:

    • Labeling plates/cups for sensory tests.
    • Preparing samples according to detailed protocols.
    • Transporting samples and equipment to sensory test sites.


  • At times assist in Shipping and Receiving function for the Elkhart Lake Facility:

    • Assist in inventory management of products and raw materials to comply with Company track & trace policies.
    • Receive materials, parts, equipment, etc.
    • Shipping of samples, small packages, parts, and equipment.
    • Clean-out of areas.
    • Removing materials and samples from inventory.


  • Prepare equipment, raw materials and assist in plant trials.
  • Back-up Operator when out on PTO.

    • Milk Standardization
    • Cheesemake


  • Certified Trainer for Forklift and LOTO for Elkhart Lake facility.
  • Flexible Schedule - may be asked to work on alternate shift.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Perform the duties mentioned above in accordance with the company procedures, including but not limited to: Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).


Your Education and Experience.



  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED). Sanitation experience in a food manufacturing environment is desired.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word. Knowledge of Box or similar document retention software.
  • Valid driver's license is required.


Your Qualifications.



  • Willingness to complete Forklift, High Lift, Floor Scrubber, Chemical safety, GMP and LOTO certification upon hire.
  • Occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 100lbs with assistance.

  • While performing the duties of this job, you are regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. You are occasionally exposed to high places; extreme cold; extreme heat; the risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. You must be able to tolerate humid, steamy conditions. You also must be able to work with sanitation chemicals used to wash and sanitize food production rooms.
