The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary The mission of the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (VP&S) Office for Research is to facilitate the highest caliber of biomedical research, from basic to translational to clinical, among the VP&S faculty, students, and staff at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC). As a member of the Pre-Award team, the manager contributes to CUIMC's research mission by supporting grant-related pre-award administrative activities for the basic sciences and other participating departments in the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. In this role, the Manager of Pre-Award Services will leverage their expertise in pre-award grant administration and their strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills to manage a team of pre-award administrators, providing leadership and support to facilitate their success. As a manager, this person will provide coaching, feedback, and guidance to support team member development; manage performance and collaborate on other HR activities; collaborate on continuous improvement efforts; and support change management. In addition, the Manager will perform the full scope of pre-award grant management for a complex portfolio of projects. Through this role, the Manager can expect to develop their people management skills and ability to apply their expert knowledge of grant management to support the development of junior colleagues on the Pre-Award team. To be successful in this role, the Manager should be able to apply their expertise in pre-award grant administration knowledge while demonstrating strong interest and aptitude for coaching and leading others. The Manager should be enthusiastic about building relationships and working closely with principal investigators to contribute to the advancement of research at CUIMC. Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus 4 years of relevant experience in pre-award grant management.
- Demonstrated expertise in the full scope of pre-award grant management at CUIMC, including mastery of terminology, standards, and tools for grant management; prior experience with and understanding of NIH systems (eRA Commons, ASSIST, RePORTER); knowledge of complex budgeting, subawards, and deadline management; management of MPI grants, complex grants, and training grants; and experience implementing new policy changes. Ability to coach, guide, and educate others in the full scope of pre-award management.
- Team leadership skills, including strong communication, feedback, and conflict management skills, empathy and emotional intelligence, and the ability to foster collaboration, promote a culture of goal-achievement, coach and develop others, and lead others through new and changing situations. Ability to handle situations with respect, tact, and sensitivity.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biological science or business/administration degree such as finance, accounting, business administration, business, public health, public administration, or a directly related field.
- Supervisory and/or training experience.
