Department:Public Works Department Organizational Unit:Roadway and Bridge Position Type:Permanent Full Time/Part Time:Full Time CLOSE DATE: 02/26/2026 $24.09 to $26.50 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. South Area/Melbourne. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs skilled crafts and trades work in the operation and routine maintenance of several pieces of complex heavy equipment, and may perform related manual labor. Employee will rotate among various pieces of equipment. REQUIREMENTS: Three (3) years of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment including a Front-End Loader, Track-Hoe excavator, Backhoe and Gradall, used in the construction and maintenance of roads, sidewalks, and drainage structures, and pass a proficiency skills test. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must demonstrate ability to effectively operate four (4) different types of heavy equipment including a Front-End Loader, Track-Hoe excavator, Backhoe and Gradall and pass a proficiency skills test. Underground utility experience is preferred. This is heavy physical work performed outdoors and involves exposure to extreme weather conditions, moving machinery, traffic, noise, dust, fumes, construction debris, and water. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
