Job Summary

Working collegially as a member of our library team, the Evening Library Specialist assists and supports the Phoenix College community with circulation services face-to-face at our checkout desk, as well as behind-the-scenes as our lead in tracking lost and overdue items and facilitating library debt processes. While daily tasks lend a routine frame to the work, no one day is like the next! We look forward to welcoming a colleague who is a flexible and responsible problem-solver, who can provide support to our students and staff, while managing daily duties with proficiency and accuracy.

Essential Functions

35% - Provides circulation and other service desk assistance utilizing Alma (library management system) and Springshare tools; reinforces guidelines and procedures while maintaining a positive customer service environment.

30% - Tracks overdue and lost items; monitors debt reports; facilitates debt posting and reversal processes.

25% - Assists fellow library staff with processing print and media materials, course reserves, and inventory; cross-trains and keeps current with interlibrary and intradistrict lending processes to serve as back-up.

10% - Participates in special projects and social media efforts; serves on college/district committees; pursues professional growth; performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one year of experience in library support services such as library information resources, circulation services and equipment coordination.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

1. Direct, in-person service background in an educational and/or library setting.
2. Proficiency using an integrated library system (ILS), such as Alma, Symphony, Polaris, or Sierra, in one or more of the following technical and public access functional areas: circulation, acquisitions, periodicals, reserves, debt reporting, and interlibrary loans.
3. Aptitude using software such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, various internet browsers, and/or office equipment (such as printers/copiers, scanners).
4. One (1) year of experience working with and supporting underrepresented student populations, preferably in an educational and/or library setting.

Special Working Conditions

  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visa.
  • Evenings required (Monday through Thursday).
  • Possess a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/rmi/vehicle.htm#requirements.
  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense.
  • May require to travel within MCCCD locations and within Maricopa County.

    Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, lifting, typing, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

    Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.

    Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor, office environment.
