Job Summary

Join Phoenix College in advancing our Learning College philosophy by serving as a key leader within the Office of Student Life & Leadership. The Student Services Specialist Sr. provides essential program coordination and technical expertise to drive campus-wide initiatives that inspire student engagement, cultivate leadership development, and promote a welcoming and student-centered campus culture.

Reporting to the Manager of Student Life and Leadership, this position plays a vital role in overseeing the daily operations of the Student Union, streamlining office workflows, and training and supervising front desk staff to ensure exceptional service. As a primary liaison connecting student organizations, faculty, and community partners, this role helps bring innovative programs and collaborative opportunities to life, creating meaningful student experiences.

Essential Functions

40% - Student Union Operations, Supervision, & Training: Provide day-to-day operational oversight of the Student Union, including supervision of Student Union front desk staff and student employees. Develop, implement, and assess comprehensive training programs focused on customer service, fair and accessible engagement, safety protocols, and institutional procedures. Coordinate front desk coverage, establish service standards, and ensure a welcoming, well-managed environment for students, staff, and visitors. Oversee facility usage, space reservations, and operational readiness of the Student Union in collaboration with campus partners. Provide ongoing leadership, coaching, and performance feedback to front desk staff to support student engagement, retention, and success goals.

35% - Program Coordination & Student Leadership Development: Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of large-scale campus and district-wide initiatives, including PC United (Student Government), leadership development programs (e.g., Catalyst, LeaderShape), and student clubs and organizations. Collaborate with college administration, faculty, staff, and external vendors to design and deliver inclusive, culturally relevant programming that supports student learning, civic engagement, and leadership Development.

20% - Student Advisement & Support: Provide high-level advising, guidance, and referrals to students involved in clubs, organizations, and leadership programs. Serve as a subject matter expert on Maricopa Community Colleges District (MCCCD) policies and procedures, including travel, budget, purchasing, and student conduct, ensuring compliance and risk management across student-led activities.

5% - Operations, Assessment, & Data Management: Maintain and manage departmental databases, reports, and tracking systems related to student engagement, facility usage, and program effectiveness. Coordinate office workflows, support assessment efforts, and ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping to inform continuous improvement and strategic decision-making; other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered

Desired Qualifications
  1. Experience working in a student services environment, including advising students and supporting student organizations/leadership programs
  2. Experience in supervising individuals (staff and/or student employees)
  3. Experience leading, coordinating, developing, and implementing student leadership development programs
  4. Strong proficiency in student information systems (e.g., Salesforce, PeopleSoft) and Google Workspace
  5. Proven ability to coordinate large-scale events, including maintaining, managing budgets, reports, and tracking systems
  6. Experience with operations management, office workflows, or facility usage/space reservations
  7. Education and training in Student Affairs/Higher Education or a related field with assessment/evaluation experience


Special Working Conditions
  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visa
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends based on programming necessity

Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor, office environment.
