Job Overview

The Respiratory Care Clinical Educator utilizes respiratory arts and sciences to independently work with an interdisciplinary team to provide expertise in respiratory care education, educational design, and evidence-based practice. The Respiratory Care Clinical Educator works to provide quality patient management, education, and facilitates the delivery of comprehensive respiratory care to patients and families. Major responsibilities and functional areas include, but are not limited to, demonstrated leadership in the following: clinical practice, consultation, education, evidence base practice, research, and quality improvement with a focus on optimal patient outcomes and dissemination of information. The Respiratory Care Clinical Educator reports to the Department Director in advising/collaborating on education strategies aimed at improving patient safety and clinical effectiveness. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing leadership in the areas of education, professional development, and evidence-based practice and quality, assessing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating programs specific to competency, orientation, in-service education, career development and role transition for clinically focused respiratory care providers.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in assessing learning needs, incorporating adult learning principles to facilitate active learner involvement when planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating professional development programs and outcomes.

  • Facilitates critical reasoning skills in team members through role modeling, teaching, coaching, and/or mentoring; selects the most appropriate method of teaching to accommodate learning styles and the learning environment.

  • Leads preceptors and collaborates with clinical leaders to coordinate, plan, and evaluate clinical learning experiences for respiratory students and new hires to meet learner needs and maintain safe quality patient care.

  • Designs, organizes, implements and/or teaches in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members; develops educational offerings that support respiratory personnel and provide safe quality patient care in order to promote positive outcomes.

  • Supports the integration of evidence into practice through participation in quality, evidence-based practice, and research activities that align with the organizational strategic plan.

  • Acts as an educational resource and mentor by providing guidance, resources, and knowledge for the professional growth of patient care team members, students, and others.
  • Utilizes evidence-based practice as a member of the interdisciplinary team in the development, revision and evaluation of policies, procedures, respiratory standards, and guidelines for practice.

  • Contributes to the healthcare community through presentations, publications, and involvement in professional organizations.

  • Demonstrates leadership, team building, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills to build partnerships within and across systems, including communities.

  • Identifies and develops strategies that meet career goals, tasks, and challenges in different stages throughout a therapist's career.

  • Collaborates with department leadership in promoting customer-focused delivery of care and achieving departmental and organizational goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • EDUCATION - Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Care or Health-Care related field.

  • EXPERIENCE - Five years of experience providing respiratory care in a healthcare setting.

  • CERTIFICATION(S) - BLS for health care providers/CPR, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT);

  • Neonatal-Pediatric Specialty (NPS) certification required within 90 days of hire

  • LICENSURE - State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Respiratory Therapist license

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $84,558.69 to $126,838.03
