Corporate counsel provides advice and legal services to the officers, management and operating personnel of the affiliates of TECO Holdings, Inc. and its affiliates (primarily Tampa Electric Company and Peoples Gas System) in connection with all aspects of both routine and complex business transactions, particularly with respect to wide variety of technology agreements, general procurement contracts, and related matters

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES




  1. Advises the officers and management of TECO Holdings, Inc., and its subsidiaries, on the legal issues involved in matters and on the structuring and handling of commercial transactions and other related corporate business activities. Anticipates and guards against legal risks facing the company.
  2. Advises all business units regarding a wide variety of technology agreements, including software licensing, technology outsourcing, hardware purchases, maintenance and support arrangements, technology outsourcing, SaaS and other cloud transactions. Works collaboratively with the Technology department with respect to technology-related compliance issues.
  3. Review, interpret, draft and negotiate contracts and project documents for transactions.
  4. Manages outside counsel in legal matters in which they are engaged.
  5. Conducts or participates in educational and training seminars and workshops for employees of TECO Holdings, Inc. and other operating companies of TECO Holdings, Inc.
  6. Conducts and coordinates research into a variety of legal issues.
  7. As needed, may develop and recommend company and/or operating policy and procedural improvements and assists in various other assignments as requested by General Counsel or Associate General Counsel.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited United States college or university in accordance with TECO Holdings education policy.

Licenses/Certifications

Required: Must be a member in good standing of a state bar and be willing to seek admission to the Florida Bar.

Experience

Required: A minimum of 3 years legal experience.

Preferred: 5 years of legal experience in commercial transactions with a focus on technology agreements.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required: Must be multi-task oriented and have the capability to balance said duties in a high-
profile, fast paced working environment. Good drafting, oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required. Requires knowledge and experience in own discipline.
