THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Actuarial Intern, you will be participating in on-the-job training to learn about the various functions of the Pennsylvania Insurance Department with specific focus on the analysis and review of property and casualty or life, accident, and health insurance products. You will have the opportunity to learn and develop an understanding of basic actuarial standards, procedures, and laws related to the analysis of insurance rates, rating procedures, rating plans, schedules, rules, and policies. Work involves researching, compiling, and assisting with the analysis of insurance statistics, laws, and policy language for special projects to include data calls, surveys, presentations, training materials, and summaries that support testimony, consumer education, press releases, as well as actuarial and policy decisions. You will also be responsible for assisting with the review of form filings and participating in meetings regarding related insurance matters.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time or full-time internship, 25 to 37.5 hours per week. Anticipated start date of June 2026.
  • Parking is provided
  • Work hours will be flexible within 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch, to align with the supervisor and unit.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You will be required to report in-office a few days per month. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Internship Requirements:

  • Current full-time enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program (Spring of 2026 graduates may also be considered for this program.)
  • Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)
  • Enrolled in an actuarial science, data science, finance, economics, mathematics, or statistics program.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
