Job Purpose and Reporting Structure: Under the direction of the Office Operations Manager, the Medical Assistant performs various clinical and administrative tasks to ensure optimal patient flow and excellent customer service in accordance with OCHC policies, practices, and procedures. The Medical Assistant has a reporting relationship with the Chief Medical Officer and other clinical leadership. Position Summary: This position is devoted to the delivery of exceptional, patient-centered primary and behavioral health care to patients of all ages in an ambulatory setting. The MAperforms both clinical and administrative duties to ensure a smooth workflow, enhance patient experience, and promote access to care for underserved populations. The MA performs duties and carries out the necessary functions in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and standing orders. The MA Skill Checklist completed during orientation and probationary periods and updated as needed, will indicate the duties and responsibilities the MA is privileged to perform. Clinical Responsibilities: The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Measure and document vital signs, patient medical history, medications and reason for visit in the EHR (Epic) Collect additional intake information per OCHC rooming protocol. Obtain, evaluate and record patient history using appropriate tools and protocols within the EMR (Epic) Perform pre-visit screenings following protocols approved by OCHC and the ordering provider. Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments as ordered by the provider and within legal boundaries. Assist in the establishment, organization, and maintenance of patient medical records. Administer vaccines and medications as ordered (under supervision and per protocol). Maintain medication and immunization records in the EMR with the Wisconsin Immunization Registry. Prepare and maintain examination and treatment rooms in preparation for patient care. Prepare and administer oral and parenteral (excluding IV) medications and immunizations as directed by the ordering provider, and as permitted by Wisconsin law. Screen and follow up with test results, per provider recommendations. Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments as ordered by the provider and within legal boundaries. Screen and follow up with test results, per provider recommendations. Perform CLIA-waived tests (including Blood glucose, UA, HCG, Hemasure, HgA1c, Leas, strep tests, swabs), per protocol. Perform EKGs, Spirometry, vision and hearing screens, and other clinical screenings as required. Document patient communication and clinical treatment timely, accurately, and appropriately. Screen and educate the patient as directed by the ordering provider in health maintenance, disease prevention, and compliance with the patient's treatment plan. Serve as the communication liaison and patient advocate between the patient and the healthcare team. Recognize and respond to emergencies. Adapt communication to an individual's understanding. Administrative Responsibilities: Identify community resources for health maintenance and disease prevention to meet individual patient needs. Schedule, coordinate, and monitor appointments. Employ professional telephone and interpersonal techniques, applying medical terminology appropriately in all settings. Perform and actively participate in quality control, quality improvement, and organizational strategic plans. Attend and actively participate in department and other organizational meetings. Perform and maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment for the department, including attention to supply levels and expiratory dates. Perform routine maintenance of clinical equipment. Apply computer and other electronic equipment techniques to support office operations which may include tasks such as paperwork management, faxing, prior authorizations, etc. Receive, organize, prioritize, store, and maintain transmittable information utilizing electronic technology. Additional Responsibilities: Maintain skills through continuing education. Identify and respond to issues of confidentiality. Perform tasks within legal and ethical boundaries. Comply with established risk management and safety procedures. Recognize professional credentialing criteria. Adhere to and enforce HIPPA regulations. Vaccination Requirement: Racine Community Health Centers mandates that all employees be fully vaccinated against MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, and Influenza.
