Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences supports the College of Health and Sciences commitment to excellence in scholarship, teaching and service. The department engages in interdisciplinary teaching and research that provides relevant real world expertise required by students to become skilled scientists, to excel intellectually and professionally in a global environment, and to pursue careers in science and management or continue their education in graduate school.
The department mission is to establish education (BS, MS, PhD) programs that will prepare students with scientific competency and hands-on laboratory experience to pursue careers in the pharmaceutics, clinical trial research organizations and biotechnology industry.
Primary Purpose of Position
The position includes responsibilities in teaching, research, and service within the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the BRITE program. The primary purpose of this position is to:
(1) Teach existing courses in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences
(2) Advance the research mission of the department through independent or collaborative investigations into translational research.
(3) Serve on committees at the department, college or university levels.
This role carries substantial teaching responsibilities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and includes active involvement in mentoring and directing undergraduate and graduate student research.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Demonstrated knowledge of biotechnology, drug discovery, and applied life sciences.
* Demonstrated recent teaching experience in biopharmaceutical manufacturing, human anatomy and physiology, and drug discovery courses.
* Skill in designing, delivering, and assessing graduate and undergraduate-level courses.
* Ability to mentor master's degree student research, including the planning and supervision of projects preferably using computational approaches including in-silico modeling, docking, and other computational techniques.
* A track record of publication and the ability to communicate complex experimental concepts effectively to students and colleagues.
Minimum Education/Experience
Applicants must hold an earned doctoral degree (Ph.D., DVM, MD, DSc. PharmD, or equivalent) in a relevant field such as pharmaceutical sciences or biotechnology. Candidates must demonstrate documented evidence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Experience serving as a primary mentor for master's degree students research is required, along with strong communication skills and the ability to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.

Function Instructional
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
The candidate will deliver high-quality instruction and assessments for existing undergraduate-level courses in human anatomy and physiology, bioprocessing and cell culture laboratory, introduction to pharmaceutical sciences and graduate-level courses in biopharmaceutical manufacturing and drug discovery. The candidate is expected to develop a special topics course in the candidate's area of expertise and new courses as needed to support the mission of the department. The teaching responsibilities will encompass course design and revision, preparation of lectures and laboratory materials, supervision of laboratory sessions, and assessment of student learning.


Function Research
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Consistent with a research faculty appointment, the successful candidate will advance the department's research mission through independent or collaborative investigations into translational research and related areas, preferably in AI- assisted computational and in-silico discovery, including molecular modeling, docking, and structure-based drug design. The candidate will mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research projects, provide guidance on data analysis, and support the dissemination of research findings through publication, while promoting the timely completion of degree requirements.

The candidate will participate in departmental, college, and institutional service activities as assigned by the chair of the department and will contribute to curriculum development and continuous program improvement.
