The Player and Data Insights Team is seeking a Principal Analytics Strategy Lead to coordinate analytics efforts and drive strategic execution across Mojang Studios. This role combines leadership and storytelling with hands-on analytics expertise, shaping analytics plans for product launches, managing stakeholder priorities, and owning BI and self-service strategies that empower business users across the organization.

You will play a critical role in bridging analytics with franchise strategy, fostering strong partnerships across teams, and championing data-driven storytellingwith Mojang Studios leadership. Your work will enable smarter decisions and deliver high-impact insights that elevate player experiences across Minecraft titles. Success in this role requires the ability to think strategically at an executive level while diving deep into analytics when needed.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Drive the evolution of a hub-and-spoke analytics model by partnering with Data Science leadership to shape its design, ensure alignment across BI strategy, and guide effective implementation.

  • Leadanalyticscommunication planning and ensure operational readiness for product launch analytics, partnering with stakeholders to keep them informed and aligned on analytics strategy.

  • Partner withPlayer and Data Insights leadershipto streamlineoperationsand maintaintransparencyand alignmentacross the organization.

  • Activelyparticipateandrepresent Data Insights in product and business reviews, coordinating information flow across data functions.

  • Prepare and streamlineRoBmaterials and dashboards for speed and clarity, aligning with Data Science leadership on strategic interpretation and executive storytelling.

Operational Excellence

  • Maintain strong relationships withPlayer and Data Insights leadership, ensuringcoordination and alignment in key prioritiesand analytics strategies.

  • Coordinate joint efforts withproduct and other stakeholder teams,representingPlayer and Data Insights teams in large scale projects at Mojang Studios.

  • Collaborate withData Engineering andAnalyticsEnvironment teams to ensure best-in-class data coveragein support ofBusiness Intelligenceand analytics strategydeliverables.

  • Owncoordination ofdelivery of datastreams,analytics narratives, and reporting,to Xbox and Game Content & Studios partnersand other external partners, in coordination with other Player and Data Insights Teams.

Analytics Expertise

  • Represent analytics in new game development efforts, ensuringnew gametelemetryand dataspecs align withMojang governance frameworksand represent a "north star" framework of analytics deliverables for key products.

  • Conduct hands-on analysis using Big Data technologies (PySpark, SQL) to inform acquisition, engagement, retention, and monetization strategies.

  • Synthesize complex data into clear recommendations for product teams and leadership.

  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Mathematics, Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science, Marketing, Business, Economics or related field AND 4+ years experience in data analysis and reporting, business intelligence, or business and financial analysis OR Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, Analytics, Engineering, Computer Science, Marketing, Business, Economics or related field AND 6+ years experience in data analysis and reporting, business intelligence, or business and financial analysis
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Games industry knowledge, subject matter expert preferred.
  • Proficient in AI/ML concepts, frameworks, and tools (e.g., TensorFlow,PyTorch).
  • Experience using big data tools such as Spark (PySpark), Databricks.
  • Understanding ofdata science principles and methodologies.
  • Experience with software development processes and tools (e.g., Agile, Azure DevOps).

Business Analytics IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $251,900 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $272,300 per year.
