POSITION SUMMARY: The Designer/Drafter supports the development and upkeep of maintenance, waste processing, and facilities drawings. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Include, but are not limited to:
- Develops, revises, and maintains engineering drawings, diagrams, layouts, and 3D models (e.g., civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, structural, and facility systems) in support of N3B operations, decommissioning, environmental remediation, and waste management activities.
- Converts engineering concepts, design criteria, and field conditions into accurate, complete, and compliant engineering deliverables in accordance with approved design standards and configuration management requirements.
- Performs drawing checks and self-verifications to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, constructability, and compliance with Conduct of Engineering (CoE) requirements, applicable procedures, and quality assurance standards.
- May conduct field and site walkdowns, collect measurements, resolve discrepancies, and support the development or revision of engineering documentation.
- Incorporates change notices, engineering change requests, field change documentation, and as- built updates into controlled drawing sets in accordance with configuration control and document management processes.
- Maintains drawing archives, revision histories, and electronic document management systems, ensuring traceability, version control, and audit readiness.
- Performs other duties as required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- An Associate's degree with at least three (3) years of related experience. However, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position's duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
- An Associate's degree with at least seven (7) years of related experience. However, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position's duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with DOE Nuclear facilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, & ABILITY:
- Intermediate knowledge of 2D and 3D computer aided design software programs such as AutoCAD and AutoCAD Inventor.
- Intermediate knowledge of ASME, ANSI, AWS and related industry standards for addressing fit, form and function.
- Intermediate knowledge of engineering, design, and drafting concepts related to mechanical, electrical,
civil, etc. disciplines.
- Intermediate knowledge of modeling and drawing drafting principles, application of standards, symbols, notes, GD&T on drawings and models to capture design intent.
- Skill in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Ability to effectively convey thoughts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences.
BUSINESS ASSOCIATION: LEVEL 3: Contacts are frequent with individuals representing other departments, and/or representing outside organizations. Contacts involve obtaining or providing information or data on matters of moderate importance to the function of the department or which may be of a sensitive nature. LEVEL 4: Contacts are frequent with individuals representing outside organizations, and/or individuals of significant importance within the company. Contacts involve planning and preparation of the communications, require skill, tact, persuasion and/or negotiation to accomplish the objectives of the communications. IMPACT: LEVEL 3: Errors may be difficult to detect and would normally result in loss of customer business, material, or equipment to resolve. - This position primarily works in an office environment with low noise level due mostly to office equipment.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand, and occasionally climb or balance, squat, stoop, twist, turn, push, pull, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms.
- This position frequently must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and infrequently must lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Hearing requirements include ability to listen and respond appropriately to conversations in person, virtually, and over the phone.
- This position occasionally requires walk downs throughout the facilities and may require use of PPE such as a respirator.
