About us

National Grid is seeking an Economic Development Representative to help organize, manage, and advance strategic priorities and programs across Upstate New York, New York City, and Long Island. This role helps strengthen economic growth in the communities we serve while supporting National Grid's external-affairs goals and reputation.

This hybrid role can sit in either our Brooklyn NY, Buffalo NY, Syracuse NY, or Albany NY location

Job Purpose
  • Administer rate-discount economic development programs - working with cross-functional internal teams, state partners, and customers, while ensuring process integrity, reporting accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support Regional Representatives in managing incentive programs, projects, and activities throughout National Grid's territory.
  • Help manage internal strategies that foster economic growth and align with external priorities such as proactive site readiness.
  • Contribute to process improvement, tracking, and reporting.
  • Assist with program marketing and communications efforts in coordination with in-house teams and consultants.

  • Track record of success in economic development and/or program and project management.
  • Grasps complex issues and can manage relationships.
  • Shows interest in and understands public policy, economic development, and energy issues.
  • Adapts to change and is willing to evolve ideas or opinions based on new information.
  • Collaborates across and within teams.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, public policy, or a related field OR a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in implementing proactive strategies.
  • Proven success in program management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong project-management skills and the ability to balance multiple complex initiatives.
  • Desire and drive to provide excellent service to stakeholders and customers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Availability, if necessary, for evening events.
  • Knowledge and experience sufficient to independently lead programs and projects.
  • Experience in managing customer/ stakeholder relationships.
  • Knowledge of relevant economic development practice and legislation, current trends within the industry, and developments in legislation or regulation.

Salary

Downstate NY $100,000 - $118,000 a year

Upstate NY $83,000 - $98,000 a year

National Grid utilizes an assessment that evaluates the job qualifications/characteristics using AI or statistically based scoring. For more information, please view NYC Local Law 144.

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Internal candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
